[6] Mickaël Géreaume of Planete BD praised the artwork,though he felt the story was unoriginal and paced too slowly. [7] Manga News felt it was presented more like a graphic novel than a manga. They praised the contrasting colors in the artwork and the characters. He is best known for Crying Freeman (1986–1988),written by Kazuo Koike,and Heat (1999–2004),written by Buronson. The latter won the 2001 Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga. Ikegami received the Fauves d'Honneur at the 2023 Angoulême International Comics Festival. Yoshihide Fujiwara is a former assistant of Ikegami's.

An anime adaptation of the manga premiered on the Japanese television network KBS Kyoto between March 14 and March 28,2008,airing a total of three episodes. It is directed by Naoyuki Kuzuya,produced by Frontier Works,and animated by Anpro. The characters are voiced by the same voice actors in the drama CD.
