The Atlantic, Suwannee River and Gulf Railroad Company was a railroad under the control of the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad (FC&PR) that ran westward from Starke, Florida, eventually terminating at Wannee, Florida, on the Suwannee River. It was later absorbed by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.
State Road 51 is a north–south state highway in north Florida. Its northern terminus is along the overlap of US 41 and US 129. It runs southwards as the "secret" designation of US 129 to Live Oak, where it splits off and runs independently south to Steinhatchee. The Hal W. Adams Bridge carries it across the Suwannee River three miles (5 km) north of Mayo.
The Withlacoochee River originates in Georgia, northwest of Nashville, Georgia. It flows south through Berrien County where it joins the New River and forms part of the boundary between Berrien and Cook counties. It then flows south into Lowndes County, Georgia. At Troupville, Georgia the Little River joins the Withlacoochee River flows continues to flow south and forms part of the boundary between Lowndes and Brooks counties in Georgia. The river then flows into Florida for 1.34 miles Florida before returning into Georgia for an additional 2.44 miles. It then returns to Florida, forming the northeast boundary of Madison County, Florida and the western boundary of Hamilton County, Florida and eventually merges with the Suwannee at Suwannee River State Park west of Live Oak. The river is 115 miles (185 km) long. It is believed to be the source for the name of the central Florida river of the same name.
City of Hawkinsville was a paddle steamer constructed in Georgia in 1886. Sold in 1900 to a Tampa, Florida company, it delivered cargo and lumber along the Suwannee River. Eventually rendered obsolete by the advent of railroads in the region, it was abandoned in the middle of the Suwannee in 1922.
The Suwannee County Courthouse is a historic government building located at 200 South Ohio Avenue on the southwest corner of Warren Street in Live Oak, Florida. On November 12, 1998, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

State Road 249 is the state designation for U.S. Route 129 between US 27(SR 20) in Branford and US 90(SR 10) in Live Oak. It also includes a bi-county extension in Suwannee County, Florida from Live Oak across the Suwannee River to Jasper in Hamilton County.
In the 1980 United States presidential election, Florida was won comfortably by the Republican candidate, former California governor Ronald Reagan, over Democratic incumbent Jimmy Carter. Reagan won by a wide 17.02 percentage point margin, a particularly strong performance in this conservative leaning state. John B. Anderson, a liberal Republican congressman from Illinois who ran as an independent candidate, had Florida give him his strongest performance in a southern state by winning 5.14 percent of the popular vote. Florida, along with Virginia, were one of only two southern states to give Anderson over five percent of the vote. Although Carter lost Florida, he is the last Democrat to win a majority of counties in the state's northern region. Baker County, Bradford County, Columbia County, Liberty County, Lafayette County, Jackson County, Suwannee County, and Union County would never support a Democrat for president after this election.
Suwannee River Junior College, located in Madison, Florida, opened in 1959. It was one of eleven black junior colleges founded in the late 1950s at the initiative of the Florida Legislature. Since racial integration in schools was prohibited in the Florida Constitution of 1885 then in effect, the Legislature wished to avoid the integration mandated in the unanimous Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision of 1954 by demonstrating that a "separate but equal" higher education system existed in Florida for African Americans.
Robert Charles "Chuck" Brannan III is a Republican member of the Florida Legislature representing the state's 10th House district, which includes Baker, Columbia, Hamilton, and Suwannee counties and part of Alachua County.
