Zoltán Szilágyi is a former freestyle swimmer from Hungary, who competed in the 1988, 1992, 2000 Summer Olympics. His daughter, Liliána Szilágyi is also a professional swimmer, specializing in butterfly events. In December 2021, his daughter accused him of abusing her mentally, physically and sexually since she was a young child. In a subsequent statement, he denied the accusations, and threatened to sue his daughter. The Hungarian Swimming Association also released a statement and promised to launch an investigation into the matter.
Football is the most popular sport in Hungary. The Hungarian Football Federation is the highest body of professional football in Hungary and was founded in 1901. The Hungary national team has played in numerous international tournaments, including the inaugural football tournament in the Olympic Games, nine World Cups, and four European Championships. Their greatest achievements are the three gold medals in the 1952, 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games, and the runner-up in the 1938 and 1954 World Cups. The team known as the Mighty Magyars was also the first non-British team to defeat England, 6–3 at Wembley in 1953. The 2010 European Aquatics Championships were held from 4–15 August 2010 in Budapest and Balatonfüred, Hungary. It was the fourth time that the city of Budapest hosted this event after 1926, 1958 and 2006. Events in swimming, diving, synchronised swimming (synchro) and open water swimming were scheduled.

She is a ten-time medalist at the European Junior Championships, including winning the European junior title in the 200-metre freestyle in 2021 and 2022 and the 100-metre freestyle in 2022.
