Synthonia is short for Synthetic Ammonia, a product produced by chemical company I.C.I. ICI produced this product at one of its many plants in Billingham in the 20th century. Many local facilities took on the name due to sponsorship from this local firm including Billingham Synthonia F.C., Cricket Club and Synthonia Scout troop to name just a few.

Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) was a British chemical company. It was, for much of its history, the largest manufacturer in Britain. Its headquarters were at Millbank in London. ICI was a constituent of the FT 30 and later the FTSE 100 indices.
Teesside is a built-up area around the River Tees in North East England, split between County Durham and North Yorkshire. The area contains the towns of Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Billingham, Redcar, Thornaby-on-Tees, and Ingleby Barwick. Billingham is a town and civil parish in County Durham, England. The town is on the north side of the River Tees and is governed as part of the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees unitary authority. It had a population of 35,165 in the 2011 Census.

Christian Hanson is an English former footballer. A left-footed central defender, he represented England at schools and youth level. He played for a host of non-League clubs, and picked up his greatest honour by winning the FA Trophy with Grays Athletic in 2006. Once contracted to Middlesbrough, he played a handful of games in the Football League for Cambridge United, Torquay United, Port Vale, and Leyton Orient.
Billingham Synthonia Football Club is a football club based in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, England. Nicknamed the "Synners", they are currently members of the Northern League Division Two and play at Bishopton Road West in Stockton-on-Tees.
Jamie Pollock is an English former football club chairman, manager and professional player. As a player he was a midfielder from 1990 to 2002. He played Premier League football for Middlesbrough, Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City. He also more than 300 appearances in the Football League also appearing for Crystal Palace and Birmingham City as well as a short spell in La Liga with CA Osasuna. From 2003 to 2007 he managed both Spennymoor United and Spennymoor Town.
The Teesside Football League was a football competition based in northern England. Established in 1891, it was dissolved in 2017 when it merged with the Eskvale & Cleveland League to form the North Riding Football League. At the end of its existence the league was placed at level 11 of the English football league system, with clubs being promoted to Division Two of the Northern League.
The Billingham Manufacturing Plant is a large chemical works based in the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees, England. In agricultural terms, it is one of the most important factories in Britain.
Billingham Rugby Union Football Club is a rugby union club based in Billingham in North East England. The 1st XV play in the fourth tier, National League 2 North, following their promotion from Regional 1 North East in 2023. The 2nd XV (Lions) play in The "Candy League" Division 1. The 3rd XV play in The League "Candy League" Division 2. and the Colts play in a Saturday Colts League. The junior section range from u-7 minis to u-16's with teams winning Durham county cups and leagues recently. Billingham play their home matches at Greenwood Road.
The 1998–99 Northern Football League season was the 101st in the history of Northern Football League, a football competition in England. Division One was won by Bedlington Terriers and Division Two was won by Durham City. Bedlington opted against promotion to the Northern Premier League.
British Titan Products was the manufacturer of Tioxide, a brand of white yet opaque pigment and whitening agent made from titanium dioxide. It was initially organised to replace titanium dioxide supplies that British paint manufacturers imported from Germany. This British industry was established as a joint venture in 1934 by two of the world's major mining and chemical businesses in conjunction with a major industrial consumer and a distribution business.
Simon Robert Shaw is an English former footballer who made 176 appearances in the Football League playing as a right back for Darlington in the 1990s. He went on to play 72 times in the Conference Premier for Doncaster Rovers, and was capped for England semi-professional XI while with the club. He went on to play for Northern Premier League club Barrow, and for other non-league teams including Thornaby, Bishop Auckland, and Billingham Synthonia, where he spent four seasons, scoring 24 goals from 104 appearances, and took the free kick from which James Magowan scored the only goal of the 2009 Durham Challenge Cup final.

In his playing career, he played as a forward for Hartlepool United, Bishop Auckland, Durham City, Billingham Synthonia, Norton & Stockton Ancients, Billingham Town, Northallerton Town and Stockton Town.
