System magazine is a Anglo-French biannual publication geared toward insiders of the fashion industry. The magazine offers long-format conversations with relevant individuals within the fashion industry, accompanied by portfolios created by image-makers. (System was earlier the name of a successful American magazine, "the magazine of business," introduced by A.W. Shaw in 1900.)
System was initially published by Tartan Publishing, until Mike Obenson bought the publication in 2020. With him System continued to evolve as an influential media brand, including the launch of another biannual sister publication 'System Beauty' in 2022 and expanding digital formats. [2] Founders Elizabeth Von Guttman, Thomas Lenthal, and Jonathan Wingfield left the magazine in October of 2024 and planned to launch a new editorial venture after severe financial problems and disputes with Obenson. [3] However, in December, it was announced the three reacquired the intellectual property rights and full ownership of the magazine after it entered liquidation. [4] In may of 2025, they launched a new bi-annual "System Collections" which will offer a “time capsule” of key looks from fashion month. [5]
