T. A. Chapman Co., commonly known as Chapman's was a department store based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The chain was founded by Timothy Appleton Chapman in 1857. He opened the chain's flagship store on Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee in 1872. The original Wisconsin Avenue location was destroyed by fire 1884, and rebuilt. In 1978, the company acquired Manchester's Department Stores in Madison, Wisconsin. The Chapman family retained ownership of the company until 1983, and eventually it had seven locations. The company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 1987. At the time of bankruptcy, there were six locations: three in Milwaukee, two in Madison and one in Appleton.
Mervyn's was an American middle-scale department store chain based in Hayward, California, and founded by Mervin G. Morris. It carried national brands of clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, electronics, and housewares. Many of the company's stores were opened in shopping malls; however, some locations were operated independently. Based on 2005 revenue, Mervyn's was the 83rd largest retailer in the United States.
Shopko was a chain of department stores based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. All locations closed on June 23, 2019 with the exception of the Shopko Optical locations which continue to operate.
Gottschalks was a middle-tier American department store that operated 58 department stores and three specialty apparel stores in six western states ; some locations ran as Harris-Gottschalks stores. Prior to liquidation, it was the largest independently owned, publicly traded department store chain in the United States. On January 14, 2009, Gottschalks filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This bankruptcy became a liquidation on March 31, 2009. At least 5 prime locations became Macy's stores, while several more became Forever 21 stores.

Hot 'n Now is an American fast-food restaurant based in Holt, Michigan. Founded in 1984, the chain once grew to more than 150 locations throughout the United States at its peak. Subsequently, under the ownership of PepsiCo, the chain filed for bankruptcy in 2004, and was then sold to STEN Corporation. As of September 9, 2016, only the Sturgis, Michigan location remains in operation. The majority of the chain's locations focused entirely on drive-thru service, featuring a small-footprint building with a tall, slanted roof style. Some previous locations were more traditional fast-food locations, complete with seating, and others were combined with gas stations.

Carson Pirie Scott & Co. is an online retailer founded in 1854 as an American department store, which grew to over 50 locations, primarily in the Midwestern United States. Sold to the holding company of Bon-Ton in 2006, but still operated under the Carson name, the entire Bon-Ton collection of stores, including Carson's, went into bankruptcy and closed in 2018. Bon-Ton's intellectual property was quickly sold while in bankruptcy, and the new owners reopened shortly afterwards as online retail.

G. R. Herberger Inc. is a department store chain founded in 1927 with locations throughout the Midwestern United States. The chain was sold in the late 1990s amid growing consolidation in the department store industry, while continuing to operate as a separate nameplate and later sharing a corporate division headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with Carson's, Bergner's and other regional chains by the close of the century. The company's parent company Bon-Ton filed for bankruptcy in 2018 and liquidated.
Prange Way was an American chain of discount department stores. It was owned by the H. C. Prange Co. of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and at its peak, it operated stores in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota. The chain closed its stores by the mid-1990s, several years after H. C. Prange itself was assumed into the Younkers chain.
Bon-Ton Holdings Inc. is an American online retailer and former department store chain founded in 1898. After rapid expansion in the 1990s and early 2000s, the original company had financial troubles, ultimately filing for bankruptcy in 2018 before being sold and liquidated. In September 2018, its new owner began operating as an online retailer headquartered in Merrillville, Indiana, with plans to open brick and mortar locations. Other brands operated by The Bon-Ton are Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's, and Younkers.
Bonwit Teller & Co. was a luxury department store in New York City founded by Paul Bonwit in 1895 at Sixth Avenue and 18th Street, and later a chain of department stores. In 1897 Edmund D. Teller was admitted to the partnership and the store moved to 23rd Street, east of Sixth Avenue. Bonwit specialized in high-end women's apparel at a time when many of its competitors were diversifying their product lines, and Bonwit Teller became noted within the trade for the quality of its merchandise as well as the above-average salaries paid to both buyers and executives. The partnership was incorporated in 1907 and the store made another move, this time to the corner of Fifth Avenue and 38th Street.
P.A. Bergner & Co. is an online retailer operated by Bon-Ton holdings and was an upscale midwestern department store established in 1889. The flagship store was located in Peoria, Illinois at The Shoppes at Grande Prairie.
Steve & Barry's was an American retail clothing chain, featuring casual clothing, footwear and accessories. By mid-2008, the chain operated 276 stores in 39 states. The company was headquartered in Port Washington, New York. The company liquidated all of its stores throughout 2008 and 2009.
