Mervyn's was an American middle-scale department store chain based in Hayward, California, and founded by Mervin G. Morris. It carried national brands of clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, electronics, and housewares. Many of the company's stores were opened in shopping malls; however, some locations were operated independently. Based on 2005 revenue, Mervyn's was the 83rd largest retailer in the United States.

Prior to liquidation, it was the largest independently owned, publicly traded department store chain in the United States. On January 14, 2009, Gottschalks filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This bankruptcy became a liquidation on March 31, 2009. At least 5 prime locations became Macy's stores, while several more became Forever 21 stores.

Hot 'n Now is an American fast-food restaurant based in Holt, Michigan. Founded in 1984, the chain once grew to more than 150 locations throughout the United States at its peak. Subsequently, under the ownership of PepsiCo, the chain filed for bankruptcy in 2004, and was then sold to STEN Corporation. As of September 9, 2016, only the Sturgis, Michigan location remains in operation. The majority of the chain's locations focused entirely on drive-thru service, featuring a small-footprint building with a tall, slanted roof style. Some previous locations were more traditional fast-food locations, complete with seating, and others were combined with gas stations.

Sold to the holding company of Bon-Ton in 2006, but still operated under the Carson name, the entire Bon-Ton collection of stores, including Carson's, went into bankruptcy and closed in 2018. Bon-Ton's intellectual property was quickly sold while in bankruptcy, and the new owners reopened shortly afterwards as online retail.

The chain was sold in the late 1990s amid growing consolidation in the department store industry, while continuing to operate as a separate nameplate and later sharing a corporate division headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with Carson's, Bergner's and other regional chains by the close of the century. The company's parent company Bon-Ton filed for bankruptcy in 2018 and liquidated.

Prange Co. of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and at its peak, it operated stores in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota. The chain closed its stores by the mid-1990s, several years after H. C. After rapid expansion in the 1990s and early 2000s, the original company had financial troubles, ultimately filing for bankruptcy in 2018 before being sold and liquidated. In September 2018, its new owner began operating as an online retailer headquartered in Merrillville, Indiana, with plans to open brick and mortar locations. Other brands operated by The Bon-Ton are Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's, and Younkers.
Bonwit Teller & Co. was a luxury department store in New York City founded by Paul Bonwit in 1895 at Sixth Avenue and 18th Street, and later a chain of department stores. In 1897 Edmund D. Teller was admitted to the partnership and the store moved to 23rd Street, east of Sixth Avenue. Bonwit specialized in high-end women's apparel at a time when many of its competitors were diversifying their product lines, and Bonwit Teller became noted within the trade for the quality of its merchandise as well as the above-average salaries paid to both buyers and executives. The partnership was incorporated in 1907 and the store made another move, this time to the corner of Fifth Avenue and 38th Street.
P.A. Bergner & Co. is an online retailer operated by Bon-Ton holdings and was an upscale midwestern department store established in 1889. The flagship store was located in Peoria, Illinois at The Shoppes at Grande Prairie.
