The Southeast Asian Games, also known as the SEA Games, is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. The games are under the regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The Vietnam national under-22, under-23, and Olympic football team represents Vietnam in international football tournaments at the under-22 and under-23 age level.
Malaysia competed in the 2003 Southeast Asian Games held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 5 to 13 December 2003.
The 2021 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 31st Southeast Asian Games or 31st SEA Games and also known as Vietnam 2021, is a biennial regional multi-sport event currently held from 12 to 23 May 2022 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Originally scheduled to take place from 21 November to 2 December 2021, it was rescheduled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam. The competition features 40 sports, mainly those played at the Olympic Games. This is the second time that Vietnam has hosted the Southeast Asian Games, having previously hosted the 2003 edition.

The women's football tournament at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was the eleventh women's SEA Games football tournament. The tournament was held in Philippines from 26 November to 8 December 2019 where six teams participated. There were no age restrictions on women's teams.

Tennis was among the sports contested at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games and held at the Hanaka Sports & Entertainment Center in Bắc Ninh, Vietnam. It will take place from 13 to 22 May 2022. Seven events were featured for tennis namely: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles, men's team and women's team.
The women's football tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games will be held from 6–22 May 2022 in Vietnam. Seven Southeast Asian nations are scheduled to participate in the women's tournament. All matches will be played in Quảng Ninh. There is no age limit for this tournament. Indonesia withdrew from the competition after the draw. Malaysia withdrew from the competition before the draw. Timor-Leste did not take part in the competition.
