Dr. Tara Chand is a former Provincial Minister of Balochistan. [1]
Affiliated to the Balochistan National Party,Chand won election to the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan in 1997 from the solitary seat reserved for Hindus. [2] He defeated Arjun Das Bugti,who had won the seat in the last three elections. [2] His brother Nanak Singh,a Sikh convert,had been a local politician too. [3]
In July 2000,Chand fled Pakistan;he cited incessant harassment from local law enforcement after refusing to join the party floated by Pervez Musharraf. [1]
Since its establishment in 1947,Pakistan has had an asymmetric federal government and is a federal parliamentary democratic republic. At the national level,the people of Pakistan elect a bicameral legislature,the Parliament of Pakistan. The parliament consists of a lower house called the National Assembly,which is elected directly,and an upper house called the Senate,whose members are chosen by elected provincial legislators. The head of government,the Prime Minister,is elected by the majority members of the National Assembly and the head of state,the President,is elected by the Electoral College,which consists of both houses of Parliament together with the four provincial assemblies. In addition to the national parliament and the provincial assemblies,Pakistan also has more than five thousand elected local governments.
The Balochistan National Party or Balochistan National Party (Mengal) (Urdu:بلوچستاننيشنلپارٹی ;Balūcistāna Nēśanala Pārtī ) is a political party in Balochistan,Pakistan. BNP believes in more provincial rights and greater autonomy for Baluchistan province through peaceful and democratic struggle.
The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party,abbreviated as PMAP or PKMAP,is a political party in Pakistan's Balochistan province. It was founded by Mahmood Khan Achakzai,who was elected as the chairman,and Sher Ali Bacha,who served as the General Secretary,in March 1989 in Quetta.
General elections were held in Pakistan on 10 October 2002 to elect the 12th National Assembly and four Provincial Assemblies. The elections were held under the military government of Pervez Musharraf. The two mainstream parties,Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) had several restrictions imposed on them and their leaders Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif were in exile. In order to address the restrictions,PPP created the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) under the leadership of Ameen Faheem,to contest the elections on its behalf. The PML-N meanwhile,suffering from the party's division into two factions:one that remained loyal to Sharif and were contesting the elections under the leadership of Javed Hashmi,and the other which had broken away to form the pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League (Q) (PML-Q) under the leadership of Mian Muhammad Azhar. The emergence of the PML-Q marked the beginning of multi-party politics in the country,bringing an end to the decade-long two-party system between the PPP and PML-N.
The Provincial Assembly ofKhyber Pakhtunkhwa is a unicameral legislature of elected representatives of the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,which is located in Peshawar,the provincial capital. It was established under Article 106 of the Constitution of Pakistan,having a total of 145 seats,with 115 general seats,26 seats reserved for women and 4 reserved for non-Muslims. The 11th Provincial Assembly of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was dissolved on 18 January 2023,and the province is set to elect a new legislature on 8 October 2023.
Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi,was the 20th Governor of Balochistan Province since 28 February 2008 to 9 June 2013 as well as the chief executive of Balochistan since 14 January 2013. He is the Nawab and Tumandar of the Magsi Tribe,a former Governor and a former Chief Executive of Balochistan,a senior politician and the former Chief Minister of Balochistan province in the Benazir Bhutto government of 1993–1996. Nawab was appointed as the Chief Executive of Balochistan on 13 January 2013 after the sacking of Aslam Raisani's unpopular government and imposition of Governor's Rule. It was the main after effect of the January 2013 Pakistan bombings. Nawab Magsi did his schooling from Aitchison College,Lahore. He first came to politics in 1977,when he won as an independent candidate seat from his native constituency in the provincial assembly. However,his family was involved in Balochistan politics before Pakistani independence. He served in many provincial ministries and also worked in the Home Ministry in the 1990s. In 1993,his coalition won majority of seats and he became Chief Minister of Balochistan.
Muhammad Aslam Bhutani was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He was born in Dureji a small village of Lasbela District at Balochistan a province of Pakistan. He is the younger brother of Muhammad Saleh Bootani. He stepped into politics in 2002.
Sardar Mohammad Saleh Bhootani is a Pakistani politician who belongs to a small town Dureji which is located in Lasbela District,Balouchistan. He was the Provincial Minister of Balochistan for Local Government and Rural Development,in office from 8 September 2018 til 12 August 2023. He had been a member of Provincial Assembly of the Balochistan from August 2018 till August 2023. Previously he served as Provincial Minister of the Balochistan for Food,and Law and Parliamentary Affairs from 30 August 2018 to 8 September 2018.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (Fazl) also Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) or simply as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam is a Deobandi Sunni political party in Pakistan. Established as the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in 1945,it is the result of a factional split in 1988,F standing for the name of its leader,Fazal-ur-Rehman.
General elections were held in Pakistan on Wednesday,25 July 2018 to elect the members of 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan,the Pakistan Muslim League led by Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Peoples Party led by Bilawal Bhutto. The PTI won the most seats in the National Assembly but fell short of a majority;the party subsequently formed a coalition government with several smaller parties. At the provincial level,the PTI remained the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP);the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) retained its dominance in Sindh and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party in Balochistan. In Punjab,the result was a hung parliament with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) winning the most seats. However,after several independents MPAs joined the PTI,the latter became the largest party and was able to form a government.
Presidential elections were held on 30 July 2013 in Pakistan to elect the 12th President of Pakistan. Incumbent President Asif Ali Zardari’s term was scheduled to expire on 8 September 2013;and as such,Article 41 of the Constitution of Pakistan required the elections to be held no later than 8 August 2013. The Electoral College of Pakistan –a joint sitting of the Senate,National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies –were tasked with electing a new president to succeed President Zardari,who declined to seek a second term in office. After the Pakistan Peoples Party and its allies boycotted the presidential election,the two candidates were Mamnoon Hussain backed by the Pakistan Muslim League (N),and Wajihuddin Ahmed backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Agra-born Hussain was elected president by a majority securing 432 votes. The elections were the first time in Pakistani history where a civilian president was elected while an incumbent civilian President was still in office,completing a historic and democratic transition of power that began with the 2013 General Elections.
Senate elections were held in Pakistan on 5 March 2015 to elect the replacements for 52 retiring senators. Those retiring include chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and deputy chairman Sabir Ali Baloch of the upper house. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP),the majority party in Senate,would lose 21 members,followed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz would lose 9 and Awami National Party would lose 6 members.
The triennial Senate Electionsof Pakistan were held on 3 March 2018 to replace 52 retiring senators - half of the Senate's strength - with the winning candidates serving six-year terms. Overall,Pakistan Muslim League (N) came out as the largest party,followed by the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The results of these elections were steeped in controversy due to rampant allegations of horse trading and vote-buying,which lead to the Prime Minister and opposition leader Imran Khan calling for reforms. Prior to this election,PML (N) candidates were declared as independents by the Election Commission of Pakistan owing to a Supreme Court judgment.
