Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir is a Sudanese former military officer and politician who served as the seventh head of state of Sudan under various titles from 1989 until 2019, when he was deposed in a coup d'état. He was subsequently incarcerated, tried and convicted on multiple corruption charges. He came to power in 1989 when, as a brigadier general in the Sudanese Army, he led a group of officers in a military coup that ousted the democratically elected government of prime minister Sadiq al-Mahdi after it began negotiations with rebels in the south. He was elected three times as president in elections that have been under scrutiny for electoral fraud. In 1992, al-Bashir founded the National Congress Party, which remained the dominant political party in the country until 2019. In March 2009, al-Bashir became the first sitting head of state to be indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), for allegedly directing a campaign of mass killing, rape, and pillage against civilians in Darfur. On 11 February 2020, the Sudanese government announced that it had agreed to hand over al-Bashir to the ICC for trial.
The Janjaweed are a Sudanese Arab militia group that operate in Sudan, particularly Darfur, and eastern Chad. Using the United Nations definition, the Janjaweed comprise Sudanese Arab tribes, the core of whom are from the Abbala background with significant recruitment from the Baggara people. This UN definition may not necessarily be accurate, as instances of members from other tribes have been noted.
Hassan 'Abd Allah al Turabi was a Sudanese Islamist politician who was considered "the true architect" of the 1989 coup that brought Omar al-Bashir to power. He has been called "one of the most influential figures in modern Sudanese politics" and a "longtime hard-line ideological leader". He was instrumental in institutionalizing sharia in the northern part of the country and was frequently imprisoned in Sudan, but these "periods of detention" were "interspersed with periods of high political office".

His Um Jalul clan exercised tribal leadership of the Arab Mahamid tribe in Darfur. The Mahamid are part of a larger confederation of camel-herding (Abbala) tribes of the Northern Rizeigat. Hilal is the leader of the Janjaweed militia, which was responsible for a massive military campaign against civilians in Darfur in 2003, as part of a counterinsurgency effort against Darfur rebel groups. On 21 January 2008, the Federal Government of Sudan announced the nomination of Musa Hilal as the chief advisor of the Ministry of Federal Affairs in Sudan. This position allows Mr. Hilal to coordinate with regional leaders surrounding Darfur, as well as with Arab tribal groups, on the relations of the military regime.
General Salah Abdallah "Gosh" is the former national security advisor of the Republic of the Sudan. Prior to this position, he was the director of the National Intelligence and Security Service. He currently holds the rank of army general. Salah Gosh was reinstated to his former position as the Director General of NISS on 11 February 2018 by President Omar al-Bashir. On 13 April 2019, he resigned from his post, which was confirmed to Sudanese TV by the ruling Transitional Military Council.

Mohamed Ahmed Bashir, also known as Muhamed Besha, is a Sudanese footballer who plays for the Sudanese club Al-hilal Omdurman. He plays as a striker and also a winger. He is a member of the Sudan national football team. He was brought from Al-Mourada SC to Al-Hilal in December 2010. After having a good season with Al-Hilal in 2011, he was linked with Leyton Orient and Arsenal. He scored Sudan's first goal in 36 years in the 2012 African Cup Of Nations against Angola in the group B, which ended in a 2–2. He was transferred to the Saudi club Al-Wehda in June 2012. He scored his first goal for Al-Wehda against Al-Ahli in a friendly match, which Al-Wehda won 0–4. Bisha later scored his first league competitive goal for his new side with a shot against the Saudi League champions Al-Shabab, but the team lost 2–5. He has been a fan favourite in Makkah and in Sudan as he scored his national team since playing his trade in Saudi Arabia against Ethiopia, which Sudan won 5–3 in a qualifier match for the 2013 AFCON held in South Africa.

He earned his nickname of Ali Gagarin when he played professional football for Al-Hilal, one Sudan's biggest teams, his meteoric rise in the sport was likened to that of the famous Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
El Hilal Sports Club El Obeid or simply El Hilal El Obeid is a Sudanese sports club established in 1931 based in El-Obeid. It is active in the Sudan Premier League and participated for the first time in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.
