Tebogo Masire is the former deputy commander [1] [2] and former commander of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF). He assumed the post on November 1, 2006, succeeding Lt. Gen. Louis Matshwenyego Fisher. [3]

The Botswana Defence Force, the military of Botswana, formed in 1977. The commander-in-chief is Mokgweetsi Masisi. The main force is the army; there is also an air wing, but no sea-going navy, although there is a river contingent attached to the ground forces, with 10 Panther airboats and 2 Boston Whaler Raider class.

Louis Matshwenyego Fisher was commander of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) from 1998 to 2006. He is a recipient of the Légion d'honneur and a Presidential Order of Honour.

Under his command, in March 2007, the BDF began recruiting females into military service, [4] though Masire has emphasised that female recruits will not receive special treatment. [5]
