Formed in May 2007, Telecom Grid (of) Pakistan (or TGP in short) is an online community that appears to comprise over 400 industry insiders from Pakistan who work for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Cellular Companies (Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid Pakistan, CMPak, Instaphone), Network Service Providers (Wateen etc.), Long Distance & International operators, WLL operators, Data Center & Carrier Hotel operators, local offices of International vendors of telecommunication gear (Ericsson, Motorola, Nortel, Cisco), Telecommunication Regulator (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority), government agencies representatives, engineering students, local technology media entities and local technology bloggers & readers.

The group is hosted at Google Group and is moderated by multiple managers in different time zones to enforce quality contents. Older group members who have a reputation of abiding by the posting rules are pre-approved for posting. New members are moderated.

PTCL Pakistani telecommunication company

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, commonly known as PTCL, is the national telecommunication company in Pakistan. PTCL provides telephone and internet services nationwide and is the backbone for the country's telecommunication infrastructure despite the arrival of a dozen other telecommunication corporations, including Telenor GSM and China Mobile. The corporation manages and operates around 2000 telephone exchanges across the country, providing the largest fixed-line network. Data and backbone services such as GSM, HSPA+, CDMA, LTE, broadband internet, IPTV, and wholesale are an increasing part of its business. Originally a state-owned corporation, the share holding of Ptcl was reduced to 62%, when 26% of shares and control were sold to Etisalat Telecommunications while the remaining 12% to the general public in 2006 under an intensified privatization program under Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. However, the 62% of shares still remain under the management of government-ownership of state-owned corporations of Pakistan.

Internet in Afghanistan

Internet in Afghanistan began in 2002 after the Karzai administration took office in Kabul. It was banned prior to 2002 because the previous Taliban government believed that it broadcast obscene, immoral, and anti-Islamic material, and because the few internet users at the time could not be easily monitored as they obtained their telephone lines from neighboring Pakistan.

Access to the Internet in Azerbaijan is growing, supported by a national strategy to develop the country into an information and communication technology (ICT) hub for the Caucasus region. The Azerbaijani government actively seeks to attract foreign aid to help boost the telecommunications and ICT sectors. In April, 2019 Internet users in Bangladesh increased to 93.702 million. On 19 February 2018, Bangladesh started the 4G network service.

The Internet in Pakistan has been available since the early 1990s. Information and communications technology (ICT) is one of the fastest growing industries in the country. In 2001 just 1.3% of the population used the Internet. By 2006 this figure had grown to 6.5% and in 2012 to 10.0%. As of April 2019; the percentage of internet users in Pakistan is 33.14%, which translates into approximately 70 million citizens having access to internet.

Ignite National Technology Fund or simply Ignite is a non-profit company owned by the Government of Pakistan and administered by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. It provides grants to startups and innovate projects, operates incubators and digital skills training programs through private sector partners, commissions studies that inform public sector policy and undertakes outreach to evangelize innovation and to spread awareness about its programs amongst industry, academia, media and policy makers. Ignite was established in 2007 and is funded by mobile telecom operators, landline telecom operators and internet service providers, ISP, in Pakistan by Government mandate.
