Televisora Comunitaria de Rubio (or TV Rubio) is a Venezuelan community television station located in and seen by the people living in the town of Rubio in the Tachira State. It can be seen on UHF channel 33.

History

The project of creating a community television station for the residents of Rubio in the Táchira State dates back to 1995. In the early hours of November 10, 2005, equipment belonging to the future television station were stolen through a hole in the ceiling of its transmission facility on El Campanario hill in Rubio. On May 20, 2006, TV Rubio finally went on the air. It reaches a population of about 70,000.

The Televisora Regional del Táchira (TRT) is a privately owned Venezuelan regional television network based in the city of San Cristóbal in Táchira. Including Táchira, TRT can be seen in the southern part of the Zulia, northeastern Barinas, and northern Apure in Venezuela. Its signal can also be seen in Colombia in the Norte de Santander Department and northern Arauca Department. It broadcasts on channel six.

1875 Cúcuta earthquake

The 1875 Cúcuta earthquake occurred on 18 May at 11:15 AM. It completely demolished Cúcuta, Villa del Rosario (Colombia), San Antonio del Tachira and Capacho (Venezuela). The earthquake killed many Venezuelans in San Cristóbal, La Mulata, Rubio, Michelena, La Grita, Colón, amongst others, and was felt in both Bogotá and Caracas.

Táchira helicopter crash

The Táchira helicopter crash was the loss of a Venezuela Army helicopter and its 18 occupants on 3 May 2009. The helicopter crashed at around midday local time near El Alto de Rubio in the north-western state of Táchira in Venezuela. All eighteen people aboard the aircraft were killed. The dead included one Brigadier-General, two army pilots, fourteen other army personnel and one civilian. Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, who was a retired army Lieutenant-Colonel, announced the incident in his weekly television broadcast and said "I pay tribute to these soldiers of the homeland, especially Gen Faneite, who was my cadet".
