The Chapel of Memories, formerly St. Catherine's of Alexandria Church, [1] is an historic building in Temecula, California. [2] Built in 1917, the building is now located in Sam Hicks Monument Park on the north side of Old Town Temecula.

In 1910, Father John J. Burri was assigned to Temecula in 1910 to serve the area as an extension of San Luis Rey Mission. [4] Burri decided that the town needed a new church to accommodate the growing local Catholic congregation that typically met in school buildings.
Local Residents and the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino embraced the project. Local resident Macedonia Machado and the Santa Fe Railroad donated $1500 to purchase six lots at the corner of 6th and Front Streets for the building.
On December 4, 1916, [5] [6] Del Clark and R.J. Smith of Elsinore were told to begin chapel construction on February 9, 1917. The 1st National Bank of Temecula granted a loan of $1,200 to purchase building materials.
It was estimated that a stone chapel would cost $3,000-$4,000 and a wooden one $1,500. It was decided to build a wooden structure. The chapel measured 26 ft × 36 ft (7.9 m × 11.0 m) with dark brown stained clapboard siding. It had granite block front steps and a 7 ft (2.1 m) wide granite altar, all quarried locally and donated by the Church and Jean Laborde.
There still remained a $300 bank loan to pay. A barbecue fundraiser was held on April 15, 1917 at the Vail Ranch. [7] Food, entertainment, the space, and lumber to build a large dance floor, tables and benches, were all donated.
At a cost of $1 per person for admission, the subsequent free barbeque fundraiser attracted more than 800 people, many traveling from Los Angeles and San Diego. Entertainment consisted of a 45-minute wrestling exhibition, boxers, and high school athletes competed in various sporting games. The celebrations also included dance featuring indigenous groups and others. The bank loan was paid, and there was money left over to purchase a new car for Burri.
With the chapel completed to include a steeple, RJ Smith donated a 200-year-old bell in December 1917. The bell, however, was stolen in 1930. In 1969, when the US Navy decommissioned the USS Georgetown, it loaned the church and a 650-pound brass ship bell.
Today's chapel bell sounds are computer generated.
In 1988, the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino sold the valuable chapel land to pay for the construction of a new, larger Church. Tony and Mildred Tobin [8] purchased the chapel building from the church for $1. The Tobins donated the building to the Old Town Temecula Museum Society, to be moved to a new museum complex in Sam Hicks Monument Park.
On May 5, 1989, contractors moved the Chapel to its new location. In November 1989, the society removed some old walls and rewired the building. Refurbishing the interior and meeting building codes was estimated to cost $50,000. To help offset costs, the Banning Rehabilitation & Counseling Center sent a 7-woman inmate work crew to paint the outside of the church.
Local businessman, Stan Hansen fabricated the stained glass windows using glass from a 100-year-old St. Joseph, Missouri church building.

The Temecula Museum Board of Directors [9] decided in 1994 that the newly renovated chapel should be made available for weddings. A local contest was held to determine a name for the non-denominational chapel. Bryna Bunderson, a 16-year-old resident, won the contest with her entry, "Chapel of Memories."
A community BBQ and birthday cake tasting celebrating the Chapel of Memories' Centennial took place on April 15, 2017. [10] hosted by the City of Temecula and the Temecula Valley Museum, Inc. In keeping with tradition, the cost was $1.

The Church of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas is the Anglican parish church of Liverpool. The site is said to have been a place of worship since at least the 1250s. The California Southern Railroad was a subsidiary railroad of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in Southern California. It was organized July 10, 1880, and chartered on October 23, 1880, to build a rail connection between what has become the city of Barstow and San Diego, California.
The Meneely Bell Foundry was a bell foundry established in 1826 in West Troy, New York, by Andrew Meneely. Two of Andrew's sons continued to operate the foundry after his death, while a third son, Clinton H. Meneely, opened a second foundry across the river with George H. Kimberly in Troy, New York in 1870. Initially named the Meneely Bell Company of Troy, this second foundry was reorganized in 1880 as the Clinton H. Meneely Company, then again as the Meneely Bell Company. Together, the two foundries produced about 65,000 bells before they closed in 1952.
Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Historical Park is a national memorial dedicated to General George Washington and an active Episcopal parish in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The church was inspired by a sermon preached by Anglican minister Reverend Dr. W. Herbert Burk, founder and first rector of the parish. The building was designed by architect Milton B. Medary. Rancho La Laguna was a 13,339-acre (53.98 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Riverside County, California given in 1844 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to Julian Manriquez. The rancho lands are included in the present day city of Lake Elsinore and Wildomar. At the time of the US Patent, Rancho Laguna was a part of San Diego County. The County of Riverside was created by the California Legislature in 1893 by taking land from both San Bernardino and San Diego Counties.
The Cathedral of the Assumption is both the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin and the parish church for the cathedral parish. Hestad Chapel is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sunnfjord Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hestad, on a small peninsula jutting into the Hestadfjorden, a lake that is part of the river Gaula. Because of its location on a small "island"-like peninsula, the church is also known as the Øyrakyrkja. It is one of the four churches for the Gaular parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1805 by an unknown architect. The church seats about 80 people.

The shrine is directed by the Barnabite Fathers. It is located at 1023 Swann Road in Lewiston, New York, USA, north of Niagara Falls.
St. George's Episcopal Memorial Church, a historic Episcopal church in Bismarck, North Dakota's capital, is unique for its construction incorporating stained glass from English churches bombed in World War II into its own stained-glass windows. It is located in the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021. The building, completed in 1949, replaced an early one dating to 1881 in the Dakota Territory, prior to statehood in 1889. The original building was built on railroad-donated land in the first decade of the city's growth. The church needed more space by the 1930s but was unable to erect a larger building until after World War II. The original building was moved and repurposed as a museum at Camp Hancock State Historic Site. The newer building is notable for being constructed of pumice concrete and its unique stained-glass windows. The windows were made in England by Barton, Kinder, and Alderson, and the majority of them contained pieces of glass that were salvaged from dozens of damaged churches in southeast England during World War II. The glass studio documented the lineage of each window, with some made with glass collected from churches built in the Middle Ages.
