The Avion is the student-led college media publication of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. The Avion publishes four regular print issues as well as three special issues per semester, and has a print circulation of approximately 1,000. The newspaper has a history dating back to Embry-Riddle's earliest days in Miami.[ citation needed ]

Publication schedule

The Avion is published several times during the fall and spring semesters, a total of roughly 10-14 issues per year. It is not published in the summer. The Avion publishes four special issues: an orientation edition in late August, a joke/satire edition, also known as The Avioff, mid-Spring, a Student Life issue in late Fall or early Spring, and a Student Government Association Elections Issue in the Spring.[ citation needed ]

Subscriptions

The magazine is distributed free of charge to members of the school community. Mail subscriptions are available for $20 per year.[ citation needed ]

Organization

The Avion is a division of the Embry-Riddle Student Government Association, which partially funds the organization. The magazine is run entirely by students, and most of the contributors are volunteers. In addition to the magazine, The Avion has a weekly broadcast series, website, and social media pages which are regularly updated.[ citation needed ]

The Editor-in-Chief is elected by a majority vote of the publication's staff and receives a 25% tuition voucher for his or her services. Executive Board members are also elected by the staff, and each executive board member receives a 10% tuition voucher.[ citation needed ]

The Hoya, founded in 1920, is the oldest and largest student newspaper of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., serving as the university’s newspaper of record. The Hoya is a student-run paper that prints every Friday and publishes online daily throughout the year, with a print circulation of 4,000 during the academic year. The newspaper has four main editorial sections: News, Opinion, Science, Sports and The Guide, a weekly arts and lifestyle magazine. It also publishes several annual special issues including a New Student Guide, a basketball preview and a semesterly fashion issue.

The State Press is the independent, student-operated news publication of Arizona State University. In August 2014, it became an all-digital publication. It published a free newspaper every weekday until January 2013, at which point its print distribution was reduced to once per week. The station is non-profit, entirely student run, and does not have a fixed format, however focuses on Top 40, indie, and alternative rock.

<i>Critical Review</i> (Brown University)

The Critical Review is a student publication that produces reviews of course offerings at Brown University. The student group that produces it is also called the Critical Review. The reviews are written by Brown students from course evaluation questionnaires distributed to class members in the final days of the academic semester. Its purpose is to help students make informed course choices and to help instructors improve pedagogical techniques by supplementing the information in The Brown Course Announcement with real student experiences.

The Ubyssey is the University of British Columbia's official, independent student-run paper and is published bi-weekly on Tuesday. Founded on October 18, 1918, The Ubyssey is an independent publication funded by a $7.09 annual fee, from which certain students can opt out. The staff functions as a collective; current UBC students who have contributed to the paper and attend staff meetings are eligible to become staff members. The staff elects the full- and part-time editors on an annual basis. <i>The Cadet</i> (newspaper) Newspaper in Lexington, Virginia

The Cadet(Cadet Newspaper) is a bi-weekly student newspaper published by Virginia Military Institute Cadets. In May 2021, The Cadet was restarted by cadets who wanted a newspaper to coincide with their graduation ceremony. Since then, the cadet has been staffed by current VMI cadets, and is financially supported by donations. On October 29, 2021, The Cadet announced that it was a recognized IRS 501(c)(3). This was done to ensure that members of The Cadet staff maintain independence from VMI's Office of Communications and Marketing in order to afford The Cadet's Staff complete and total editorial control. In October 2021, The Cadet was accepted into the Virginia Press Association (VPA) and the cadets who operate the newspaper all carry Virginia State Police Press IDs. The Cadet is owned by The Cadet Foundation, INC and is published with the assistance of the Lexington News-Gazette.

<i>The Bull & Bear</i>

The Bull & Bear is a student-run magazine at McGill University. Founded in 2003, the magazine was initially conceived as a platform for the voice of students in the Desautels Faculty of Management. In 2012, the magazine widened its scope to include McGill affairs and Montreal-wide news, and it is today considered a general undergraduate news magazine. The Bull & Bear publishes articles online on a rolling basis, and it prints one issue per semester.

<i>McGill International Review</i>

The McGill International Review (MIR) is an online daily publication based in Montréal, Québec and operated by the International Relations Students' Association of McGill (IRSAM), which provides academic analysis and coverage of world affairs under the aegis of McGill University. The current editor-in-chief is Alison Lee.
