Film City; officially Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari is an integrated film studio complex situated near Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Goregaon East, Mumbai in India. It has several recording rooms, gardens, lakes, theatres and grounds that serve as the venue of many Bollywood and Marathi films. It was built in 1977 by the state government to provide facilities and concessions to the film industry. The plan for Film City was prepared and executed under the guidance of V. Shantaram. It was renamed Dadasaheb Phalke Chitra Nagari in 2001 in memory of India's first producer-director-screenwriter Dadasaheb Phalke, who is considered as father of the Indian film industry. It has been the shooting location for almost all Bollywood films. It has many types of location available for shooting including permanent sets of a temple, prison, court, lake, mountains, fountains, villages, picnic spots, gardens and a man-made waterfall.

Homi Wadia was an Indian film director and producer in Bollywood. He was the co-founder of Wadia Movietone productions, established in 1933 and later after the closure of Wadiatone, he founded Basant Pictures in 1942. In a career spanning five decades, he directed over 40 films, including Hunterwali (1935), Miss Frontier Mail (1936), Diamond Queen (1940), Shri Ram Bhakta Hanuman (1948) and fantasy film Hatim Tai (1956). He was also a founding member of the Film & Television Producers Guild of India, established in 1954. Homi Wadia was married to actress and stunt woman Fearless Nadia. Homi was the younger brother of JBH Wadia, who was himself a movie director.
Tara Sutaria is an Indian actress who works in Hindi films. She began her career as a singer in Disney India's Big Bada Boom and transitioned to acting with the channel's sitcoms The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir (2012) and Oye Jassie (2013). Sutaria made her film debut in 2019 with Student of the Year 2, for which she won Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.

Made on a budget of ₹88 crore, the film was largely shot in and around Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Welcome Back was released worldwide on 4 September 2015.
