The Lowland Hundred was a British musical group, based in Aberystwyth, Wales. The band was active between 2008 and 2014. Its core members were Paul Newland and Tim Noble. [1]
The band takes its name from Cantre'r Gwaelod, the mythical land which is said to lie beneath Cardigan Bay. The band's hometown of Aberystwyth is one of the main towns on Cardigan Bay.
The band's music and lyrics make frequent reference to the geographical and architectural features of Aberystwyth and the surrounding areas. [2]
The band released its debut album, Under Cambrian Sky, on 7 June 2010. The album and band achieved wider notability when Mojo magazine awarded the album Disc Of The Day on 12 January 2011. [3]
The band's second album, 'Adit', was released in 2011 (Hundred Acre Recordings).
The band's third album, 'The Lowland Hundred', was released in 2014 (Exotic Pylon Records). It received a favourable review by Rob Young in The Wire magazine.
Singer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Newland released a solo album as Clevelode in 2020.

The Cambrian Line, also known as the Cambrian Main Line and Cambrian Coast Line, is a railway line that runs from Shrewsbury, England, westwards to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli in Wales. Passenger train services are operated by Transport for Wales Rail between the western terminals of Pwllheli, Gwynedd, and Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, with the eastern terminal at Shrewsbury, Shropshire as part of the Wales & Borders franchise. The railway line is regarded to be scenic, as it passes through the Cambrian Mountains in central Wales, Snowdonia National Park and along the coast of Cardigan Bay.
Ceredigion is a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. Llanbadarn Fawr is a village and community in Ceredigion, Wales. It is on the outskirts of Aberystwyth next to Penparcau and Southgate. The 2022 Ceredigion County Council election took place as of 5 May 2022 to elect 38 members to Ceredigion Council. On the same day, elections were held to the other 21 local authorities and to community councils in Wales as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections.
