The Mackinnons was a BBC Scotland drama series, which started in 1977. It starred Bill Simpson as the head of the Mackinnon family, a vet in the fictional Argyll town of Inverglen (the opening shot actually showed Inveraray). It was seen as inhabiting similar terrain to Dr. Finlay's Casebook and Sutherland's Law , but was less successful.

The Imperial British East Africa Company (IBEAC) was a commercial association founded to develop African trade in the areas controlled by the British Empire. The company was incorporated in London on 18 April 1888 and granted a royal charter by Queen Victoria on 6 September 1888. It was led by William Mackinnon and built upon his company's trading activities in the region, with the encouragement of the British government through the granting of an imperial charter, although it remained unclear what that actually meant.

Ewen Daniel Mackinnon was an Australian politician. The son of state MLA Donald Mackinnon, he was born in Melbourne and educated at Geelong Grammar School and then attended Oxford University. He returned to Australia as a grazier at Linton before becoming a company director and serving in the military 1938–43. In 1949, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal for Wannon, but he was defeated in 1951. In 1953 he returned to the House as the member for Corangamite, having been elected in the by-election that followed the death of Allan McDonald. In 1966, Mackinnon retired from politics and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
