The distillery's name refers to the biblical phrase "The Land of Milk and Honey".

History

The planning of the distillery began in 2012 when a group of entrepreneurs, including Gal Kalkshtein, Amit Dror, Simon Frid, Roey Licht, and Naama Licht, decided to establish Israel's first whisky distillery. They chose a building in the southern part of Tel Aviv, near Bloomfield Stadium. The distillery commenced operations in 2014.

Additional partners in the establishment of the distillery include Lital Kalkshtein, who serves as the director, Nir Gilit, who served as the CEO in its early years and until the completion of the establishment process, and Tomer Goren, the head distiller of the distillery.

Throughout its early operations, the distillery was advised by Scottish consultant Dr. Jim Swan, a whisky specialist, until his passing in February 2017.

The first products were released at the beginning of 2016.

In May 2017, the distillery unveiled Israel's first-ever single-malt whisky, made by its Head Distiller, Tomer Goren. Their whisky, aged for more than 3 years, has been noted to be well-matured due to Israel's warm climate affecting and accelerating the aging process. [1] [2]

Awards and recognition

In 2023, the distillery was awarded the title of the Best Single Malt Whisky in the world at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards for its Elements Sherry Cask - a Single Malt Whisky that matured in sherry and bourbon casks. Additionally, the distillery received several other awards at the Icons of Whisky competition

German whisky is a distilled beverage produced in Germany made from grains traditionally associated with the production of whisky. The distillation of German-made whisky is a relatively recent phenomenon having only started in the last 30 years. The styles produced resemble those made in Ireland, Scotland and the United States: single malts, blends, and bourbon styles. There is no standard spelling of German whiskies with distilleries using both "whisky" and "whiskey" and one even using "Whesskey", a play on the word whisky and Hessen, the state in which it is produced. There are currently 23 distilleries in Germany producing whisky.

Finnish whisky was first distilled from 1981 to 2000 at the Koskenkorva alcohol distillery in Ilmajoki, Finland, run by the state-owned alcohol monopoly Alko. In 1983 Alko introduced Viski 88 that became the best-selling whisky in Finland and remained in production until the year 2000. A 10-year-old whisky was sold from 1991, until the company discontinued all whisky production in 2000.
