The Star of Star Newspapers was a twice weekly regional newspaper serving the southern Chicago suburbs. The newspaper covered news in Chicago Heights, Park Forest, Crete, University Park, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Forest, Matteson, Richton Park, Frankfort, Mokena, and New Lenox, among a handful of other southern suburbs.
On November 18, 2007, The Star was merged into The Daily Southtown to become the SouthtownStar. The paper is delivered daily to subscribers, with a special Neighborhood Star pull-out section included in the Thursday and Sunday editions.
Generally, its circulation area extends from the Illinois-Indiana state line on the east to New Lenox on the west. Its coverage area goes as far north as Worth Township and as far south as Beecher. The SouthtownStar is owned by the Sun-Times Media Group. Then in 2014, the SouthtownStar was purchased by the Chicago Tribune.

The Daily Southtown is a newspaper of the Chicago, Illinois, United States metropolitan area that covers the south suburbs and the South Side neighborhoods of the city – a wide region known as the Chicago Southland. Its popular slogan is "People Up North Just Don't Get It". It is published by the Chicago Tribune Media Group.

The Chicago Southland is a region comprising the south and southwest suburbs of the City of Chicago in the U.S. state of Illinois. Home to roughly 2.5 million residents, this region has been known as the Southland by the local populace and regional media for over 20 years. Despite this relatively recent term, some older native Southlanders and current local advertisements colloquially refer to the Southland as the Southside, meaning on the southern side/border of Chicago as extended into the suburbs since some of them previously lived on Chicago's Southside but moved to the suburbs during post WWII white flight.
Orland Square is a shopping mall located in Orland Park, Illinois. It is the largest mall in the Chicago Southland, the south and southwest suburbs of Chicago, covering an area of 1,229,884 square feet. It opened on March 15, 1976 and received major renovations in 1995. Its anchor stores are JCPenney, Macy's and Von Maur. It also has two restaurants, Cheesecake Factory and Texas de Brazil.
Balmoral Park is an equestrian facility located just south of Crete, Illinois, United States. It operated from 1926 to 2015 as a horse racing track. It reopened in 2017 as a horse show facility under the same name.

Orland Park 179th Street is one of three stations on Metra's SouthWest Service in Orland Park, Illinois. The station is 28.7 miles (46.2 km) away from Chicago Union Station, the northern terminus of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 179th Street is in zone F. As of 2018, Orland Park 179th Street is the 162nd busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 208 weekday boardings. The station was the southern terminus of the line from January 3, 1995 to January 30, 2006 when it was extended to New Lenox and Manhattan.
