King's College is a Catholic liberal arts college in Wilkes-Barre,Pennsylvania. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and located within the Diocese of Scranton.
Wilkes University is a private university in Wilkes-Barre,Pennsylvania. It has over 2,200 undergraduates and over 2,200 graduate students. Wilkes was founded in 1933 as a satellite campus of Bucknell University,and became an independent institution in 1947,naming itself Wilkes College,after English radical politician John Wilkes after whom Wilkes-Barre is named. Carolyn Jane Maloney is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 12th congressional district since 2013,and for New York's 14th congressional district from 1993 to 2013. The district includes most of Manhattan's East Side,Astoria and Long Island City in Queens,Greenpoint,Brooklyn,as well as Roosevelt Island. Maloney is a member of the Democratic Party. She ran for reelection in 2022 but lost the primary to 10th district incumbent Jerry Nadler after redistricting drew them both into the 12th district.
The United States Exploring Expedition of 1838–1842 was an exploring and surveying expedition of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding lands conducted by the United States. The original appointed commanding officer was Commodore Thomas ap Catesby Jones. Funding for the original expedition was requested by President John Quincy Adams in 1828;however,Congress would not implement funding until eight years later.
