Dr. Harak Singh Rawat is a prominent political leader of the Uttarakhand state in India. He is a member of Indian National Congress after being expelled from the BJP in 2022. After joining Congress he negotiated an MLA ticket for his daughter in law, Anukriti Gusain, from Congress party and worked as a star campaigner in 2022 Uttarakhand General Elections. He became the youngest Minister of Uttar Pradesh State in the year 1991 and also won assembly election from Pauri. He has also won as an MLA from Rudraprayag, Lansdowne and Kotdwar and is one of the few leaders in the state with a wide appeal in a large area. He was the candidate of Indian National Congress from Garhwal in 2014 Indian general election. He was expelled from BJP and the Cabinet led by Pushkar Singh Dhami stating that he has indulged in anti-party activities and he is demanding ticket for his daughter in law (Anukriti) as well for the Uttarakhand Assembly Elections 2022. Elections for the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in Uttarakhand state, India are conducted in accordance with the Constitution of India. The 2002 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly election were the 1st Vidhan Sabha elections of the state of Uttarakhand in India, when the Indian National Congress emerged as the largest party with 36 seats in the 70-seat legislature in the election. The Bharatiya Janata Party became the official opposition, holding 19 seats.

The Uttarakhand Council of Ministers is the executive wing of Government of Uttarakhand and headed by Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, who is the head of government and leader of the state cabinet. The term of every executive wing is for 5 years. The council of ministers are assisted by department secretaries attached to each ministry who are from IAS Uttarakhand Cadre. The chief executive officer responsible for issuing orders on behalf of government is Chief Secretary to the state government. The current Chief Secretary is Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sindhu who took charge from outgoing Om Prakash.

Kishore Upadhyaya is an Indian politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly representing Tehri in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party since moving from the Indian National Congress in January 2022. He has been elected three times to represent Tehri, in 2002, 2007 and 2022. Surendra Singh Negi is an Uttarakhand politician. He is a former MLA of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from Kotdwar. He is a member of the Indian National Congress. He was a minister in the Cabinets of N. D. Tiwari, Vijay Bahuguna and Harish Rawat. In 2012 Assembly election, he defeated B. C. Khanduri by 4,623 votes. He has close political relations with powerful politicians Shri Chandra Mohan Singh Negi and Girdhari Lal Amoli.

Uttarakhand Ratna is one of the two highest civilian award of the State of Uttarakhand, along with Uttarakhand Gaurav Samman. It is awarded to a person for their extraordinary contribution in any field of human endeavour. It was constituted in the year 2016 by the Government of Uttarakhand.
