Thomas Campbell (born August 1958) is a Northern Irish solicitor and Alliance Party politician who has been an Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Councillor for the Three Mile Water DEA since 2014. Prior to this,he had been a councillor in the former Newtownabbey Borough,having been first elected in 2005. [2]
From 1985 until 2001,Campbell also sat on Belfast City Council,serving as High Sheriff of Belfast between 2000 and 2001.
Campbell was first elected onto Belfast City Council at the May 1985 local elections,representing the Castle District,for the Alliance Party. [3] He was defeated at the 1993 election,losing out to the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP),who won a second seat in the district. He returned to the council in 1997. [4] In January 2000,Campbell was appointed High Sheriff of Belfast. [5] He lost his seat again at the 2001 local elections.
At the 2005 local elections,Campbell was elected onto Newtownabbey Borough Council,representing the Antrim Line District. He moved districts at the 2011 election,being elected in the University area. [6] [7]
At the 2014 local elections,Campbell was elected onto the successor Antrim and Newtownabbey 'super council,' serving as Alliance's sole representative in the Three Mile Water District. [8] He was joined on the council by running mate Julie Gilmour at the 2019 election. Both were re-elected in 2023. [9] [10]
The Progressive Unionist Party (PUP) is a minor unionist political party in Northern Ireland. It was formed from the Independent Unionist Group operating in the Shankill area of Belfast,becoming the PUP in 1979. Linked to the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and Red Hand Commando (RHC),for a time it described itself as "the only left of centre unionist party" in Northern Ireland,with its main support base in the loyalist working class communities of Belfast.
Newtownabbey Borough Council was a Local Authority in County Antrim in Northern Ireland,on the north shore of Belfast Lough just immediately north of Belfast. The Council merged with Antrim Borough Council in April 2015 under local government reform in Northern Ireland to form Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is a local authority that was established on 1 April 2015. It replaces Antrim Borough Council and Newtownabbey Borough Council. A statutory transition committee was established in 2013 to prepare for the merger. The first elections to the authority were on 22 May 2014 with 73 candidates standing for 40 seats. The authority acted in shadow form until the formal creation of the Antrim and Newtownabbey district on 1 April 2015.
