Tom Cilmi (born June 5, 1964) is a Republican Legislator who currently serves constituents for the Tenth Legislative District of New York, and was first inaugurated in January 2010. The 10th District in Suffolk County encompasses Islip, East Islip, Hauppauge, Islip Terrace, Great River, Bohemia, Ronkonkoma, Bay Shore and Islandia. Cilmi is a graduate of West Babylon Public Schools (1982) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the New York Institute of Technology (1986). [10] [11] [12]

Additionally, it has a cybersecurity research center in Port Washington, New York, as well as campuses in Arkansas, United Arab Emirates, China and Canada.
Cilmi has been an outspoken critic of underage drinking and sponsored legislation to prohibit the sale of so-called binge drinking games to minors. [13]
He has spoken up against the NY State mandate of out-of-county tuition, particularly for F.I.T. [14] [15]
He was first elected with 60% of the vote to the Suffolk County Legislature on November 3, 2009.[ citation needed ]
Suffolk County is a predominantly suburban county on Long Island and the easternmost county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the county's population was 1,493,350, estimated to have decreased slightly to 1,492,953 in 2017, making it the fourth-most populous county in New York. Its county seat is Riverhead, though most county offices are in Hauppauge. The county was named after the county of Suffolk in England, from where its earliest European settlers came.

Lafazan has been featured as a speaker in TedX conferences. He is currently a professor at Long Island University, instructing a course focusing on how to run for public office as a young candidate.
