Kean University is a public university in Union and Hillside, New Jersey. It is part of New Jersey's public system of higher education. Kean University is best known for its programs in the humanities and social sciences and in education, graduating the most teachers in the state of New Jersey annually.
Thomas Howard Kean is an American businessman, academic administrator and politician who served as the 48th Governor of New Jersey from 1982 to 1990 as a Republican. Kean is best known globally, however, for his 2002 appointment as Chairman of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, widely known as the 9/11 Commission, which was responsible for investigating the causes of the September 11 attacks and providing recommendations to prevent future terrorist attacks. He was appointed to this post by U.S. President George W. Bush. Upon the completion of his second term as Governor, he served as the President of Drew University for 15 years, until his retirement in 2005.

Thomas Howard Kean Jr. is an American Republican politician currently serving as Minority Leader of the New Jersey Senate. From 2001 until 2003, he was a New Jersey General Assemblyman, and represented the 21st Legislative District, which includes parts of Union, Morris, Somerset, and Essex Counties. In 2003, he was elected a New Jersey state senator representing the same district, and in January 2008 became Minority Leader of the New Jersey Senate.
Jon M. Bramnick is an American Republican Party politician, who has served in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2003, representing the 21st legislative district. He has served as the Assembly Republican Leader since January 2012. He was appointed to the Assembly in 2003 to fill the unexpired term of the vacancy created upon the selection of Thomas Kean Jr. to fill an unexpired New Jersey Senate term. He was elected to a full two-year term later that year and was re-elected in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

He had previously represented the 11th district in the Assembly from 2002 to 2008.
The 2006 United States Senate election in New Jersey was held November 7, 2006. Incumbent Democratic Senator Bob Menendez was elected to represent New Jersey in the United States Senate for a six-year term which ended in January 2013. The seat was previously held by Democrat Jon Corzine, who resigned in January 2006 after being elected Governor of New Jersey. After Corzine was sworn in Governor, he appointed Menendez, then a U.S. Representative, to the vacant Senate seat. Menendez was challenged by Republican State Senator Thomas Kean, Jr. and seven other candidates. Filing for the primary closed on April 10, 2006. The primary election was held June 6, 2006. Menendez became the first Hispanic to hold a U.S. Senate seat from New Jersey, and was the first Latino elected to statewide office in the state.

The 1989 New Jersey gubernatorial election was a race for Governor of New Jersey held on November 7, 1989. Incumbent Republican Governor Thomas Kean was term-limited having been elected to served two consecutive terms. Democrat James Florio, a U.S. Representative from the 1st district and a two-time unsuccessful candidate for Governor, defeated 12th district Republican Representative Jim Courter in a 24-point landslide.
The New Jersey gubernatorial election of 1985 was a race for Governor of New Jersey held on November 5, 1985. Incumbent Republican Governor Thomas Kean sought reelection for a second term following his 1797-vote win in the 1981 election. Kean's 40-point landslide victory against the Democratic candidate, Essex County Executive Peter Shapiro, is the largest plurality in terms of percentage and raw votes in all modern New Jersey gubernatorial elections. Kean won 564 out of 567 municipalities and his coattails led the Republicans to win the General Assembly with a 50-seat majority. To date, Kean is the most recent Republican to win Essex and Hudson counties in a statewide election.
