Stage 6 Films, Inc. is an American film production label of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions that acquires and produces feature films that are low budget and that are being released direct-to-disc, on demand, or through streaming services. Some of their films are also being released theatrically. Once a film is finished, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions will decide if the film will be released theatrically or on a different platform.
Lena Dunham is an American writer, director, actress, and producer. She is the creator, writer, and star of the HBO television series Girls (2012–2017), for which she received several Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe Awards. Dunham also directed several episodes of Girls and became the first woman to win the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – Comedy Series. Prior to Girls, Dunham wrote, directed, and starred in the semi-autobiographical independent film Tiny Furniture (2010), for which she won an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. Her second feature film, Sharp Stick, written and directed by Dunham, was released in 2022. Her third film, Catherine Called Birdy, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2022. It was released in a limited release on September 23, 2022, by Amazon Studios, prior to streaming on Prime Video on October 7, 2022.
War Witch is a 2012 Canadian dramatic war film written and directed by Kim Nguyen and starring Rachel Mwanza, Alain Lino Mic Eli Bastien and Serge Kanyinda. It is about a child soldier forced into a civil war in Africa, and who is believed to be a witch. The film was primarily shot in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in French and Lingala.
A Coffee in Berlin, originally titled Oh Boy, is a 2012 German tragicomedy film written and directed by Jan-Ole Gerster in his feature directorial debut. It stars Tom Schilling, Friederike Kempter, Marc Hosemann, Katharina Schüttler, Justus von Dohnányi, and Michael Gwisdek. It follows an aimless university dropout who attempts to make sense of life as he spends one fateful day wandering the streets of Berlin.
Too Many Men (1999) is a novel by Australian author Lily Brett. It won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize in 2000 for the Best Book from the South-East Asia and South Pacific Region. The novel was adapted into a feature film by the German director Julia von Heinz. Titled as Treasure, the film will be presented at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in the Berlinale Special Gala section in February 2024.
The Roads Not Taken is a 2020 drama film written and directed by Sally Potter. The film stars Javier Bardem, Elle Fanning, Salma Hayek and Laura Linney.
I'm Your Man is a 2021 German science fiction romance film written and directed by Maria Schrader and starring Maren Eggert, Dan Stevens and Sandra Hüller. It premiered at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival in March 2021. It was selected as the German entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards and made the shortlist in December 2021.
Sharp Stick is a 2022 American sex comedy film written, directed, and produced by Lena Dunham. It stars Kristine Froseth, Jon Bernthal, Luka Sabbat, Scott Speedman, Dunham, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Taylour Paige, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2022, and was released theatrically in the United States on July 29, 2022, by Utopia. It received mixed reviews from critics. It was released on video-on-demand platforms on August 16, 2022.
Before, Now & Then is a 2022 Indonesian period drama film, written and directed by Kamila Andini. It stars Happy Salma as Nana, a woman who is impacted by violent times in rural Indonesia during 1940s to 1960s. The film is adapted from the first chapter of the novel Jais Darga Namaku by Ahda Imran, telling the true story of Raden Nana Sunani, a woman who lived in the 1960s West Java.
Mutt is a 2023 drama film directed, written and produced by Vuk Lungulov-Klotz in his feature directorial debut. It stars Lío Mehiel, Cole Doman, Alejandro Goic and Mimi Ryder.
Bad Living is a 2023 Portuguese-French drama film directed by João Canijo. Starring Anabela Moreira and Rita Blanco, the film portrays story of a family of several women from different generations, whose relationships with each other have grown poisoned by bitterness. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, where it had its world premiere on 22 February 2023. It won the Silver Bear Jury Prize at the festival. In September 2023, it was selected as the Portuguese entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 96th Academy Awards.
Art College 1994 is a 2023 Chinese animated drama film directed by Liu Jian. Set on the campus of the Chinese Southern Academy of Arts in the early 1990s, featuring a group of art students caught between tradition and modernity, as love and friendships are intertwined with their artistic pursuits, ideals and ambitions. The film features the voices of Jia Zhangke, Zheng Dasheng, Xu Lei, film producer Wang Hongwei, musicians Peng Lei and Ren Ke, academic Xu Zhiyuan, and Shen Lihui.
Andrea Gets a Divorce is a 2024 Austrian drama film directed by Josef Hader. The film starring Birgit Minichmayr tells the story of rural policewoman Andrea, who wants a divorce and become a detective inspector in the city, but gets involved in a hit-and-run after a birthday party her drunken husband runs out in front of her car.
Sasquatch Sunset is a 2024 American absurdist fantasy drama film directed by David Zellner and Nathan Zellner, written by David Zellner, and starring Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Christophe Zajac-Denek, and Nathan Zellner. The film follows a family of sasquatch over a period of one year. Ari Aster served as an executive producer under his Square Peg banner.
Black Tea is a 2024 romantic drama film co-written and directed by Abderrahmane Sissako. The film starring Nina Mélo and Chang Han is about a young Ivorian woman who immigrates to China and falls in love with an older Chinese man.
From Hilde, with Love is a 2024 German biographical film about Hilde Coppi, who along with her husband Hans Coppi belonged to Red Orchestra, a German resistance group to Nazism. Directed by Andreas Dresen, the film stars Liv Lisa Fries in titular role of Hilde Coppi and Johannes Hegemann as Hans Coppi.
Langue étrangère is a 2024 tragicomedy co-written and directed by Claire Burger. The film starring Lilith Grasmug and Josefa Heinsius is about a French teenager who visits her pen pal from Germany of the same age and falls in love with her.
My Favourite Cake is a 2024 drama film co-written and directed by Maryam Moqadam and Behtash Sanaeeha. The film was among the first six films selected for the first round of the New Dawn scheme after its launch in 2022. The film, starring Lily Farhadpour and Esmail Mehrabi, follows the story of a woman who decides to live out her desires in a country where women's rights are heavily restricted.
Turn in the Wound is a 2024 documentary film directed by Abel Ferrara. It is a film about performance, poetry, music and the experience of people at war, focusing on life in Kyiv since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
