Competition format

The race was held over the "sprint distance" and consisted of swimming, road bicycling, and road running. [1] As the event included multiple para-sport classifications, a 'compensation' time system was used, with athletes in more restricted classifications beginning the event a factored time period ahead of other athletes to create fair competition.

Lauren Parker Australian paratriathlete

Lauren Parker is an Australian paratriathlete. She won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. In 2022, Parker launched a scathing attack on Triathlon Australia staff claiming they were responsible for her not winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. Triathlon Australia have denied this stating "Ms Parker has received maximum financial and personal support and approved of the race day processes in Tokyo".

Joe Townsend UK paratriathlete

Joseph Townsend is a British paratriathlete who competes in the PTWC classification. Townsend has won European and world medals as well as becoming Commonwealth Champion in 2018. He represented Great Britain at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, where he finished sixth. Townsend has won the GBR Paratriathlon National Championships for four consecutive years- 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. He lost both legs whilst serving in Afghanistan, after stepping on an IED in 2008. Joe Townsend is based in Eastbourne, England, where he was born.

The women's PTVI triathlon is part of the Triathlon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games program. The competition will be held on 31 July 2022 in Sutton Park near Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. The event will feature nine triathletes from six nations, and nine sighted guides. This is the second womens's paratriathlon at the Commonwealth Games, and the first for athletes with a visual impairment.

The men's PTVI triathlon is part of the Triathlon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games program. The competition will be held on 31 July 2022 in Sutton Park near Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. The event will feature eleven triathletes from six nations, and eleven sighted guides. This is the second mens's paratriathlon at the Commonwealth Games, and the first for athletes with a visual impairment.
