Tumbahangphe belong to the Limbu Indigenous Peoples of Eastern Nepal. They are originally from Tehrathum District. The major settlement of Tumbahangphe are in the hills, in places like Myanglung (headquarter of Tehrathum district), Taplejung, Dhankuta, Panchthar and Illam.

The Limbu (ᤕᤠᤰᤌᤢᤱ) (exonym) or Yakthung (endonym) are Kirati people indigenous and native to the Himalayan Limbuwan region of the Indian subcontinent, what is now modern-day Eastern Nepal, Northern Sikkim, Kalimpong India and Western Bhutan.
Rambahadur Limbu Nepali: रामबहादुर लिम्बू) is a Nepalese Gurkha recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Rambahadur Limbu belongs to the Begha Clan of Limbu people of Nepal. Limbu was born in Chyangthapu village, Tehrathum, in East Nepal, and now lives in Damak. He is one of only five living recipients of the VC.
Taplejung or Phungling Municipality is a municipality and the headquarters of Taplejung District in the Mechi Zone of Nepal. The municipality was formed merging the two Village Development Committees of Phungling and Dokhu in May 2014. At the time of the 2011 Nepal census it had a population of 19,085 people living in 4,480 individual households.

Limbu is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken by the Limbu people of eastern Nepal and India as well as expatriate communities in Bhutan, Burma, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Canada and the US. The Limbu refer to themselves as Yakthung and their language as Yakthungpan. Yakthungpan has four main dialects: Phedape, Chhathare, Tambarkhole and Panthare dialects.

Myanglung is a municipality and the district headquarters of Terhathum District of Province No. 1 in eastern Nepal. The municipality is situated at an elevation of about 1500 metres above sea level. Myanglung was converted into a municipality from a village development committee on 18 May 2014, merging the existing village development committees of Myanglung, Piple, Jirikhimti, Ambung, Sabla and Tamphula. According to the census of 2011 the total population of Myanglung is 19,659 including five VDCs.
Solma is a village development committee in the Himalayas of Terhathum District in the Kosi Zone of eastern Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 4093 people living in 717 individual households. Solma is a Village Development Committee (VDC) lies on western part of Tehrathum District. The main ethnicity distribution of this VDC is Limbu (1190), Bramans (873), Kchhetri (663), Magar (381), Gurungs(287), Newar (166), Tamang (43) Kami (119)and Dam/Darji (100), Bhujel/Gharti (47). This VDC have one high school named Ratna Higher Secondary School, one Health Post, Post Office, Agriculture and Veterinary Center.

Subedar Major Kharka Bahadur Limbu, AC,MC was a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in Indian Army who was posthumously awarded Ashoka Chakra for an act of Gallantry in Nagaland.
