Tyrell Fortune (born July 4, 1990) is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the heavyweight division of Bellator MMA.

Background

Tyrell Fortune was a two-time state wrestling champion in high school. As a collegiate wrestler with Grand Canyon University and Clackamas Community College, Fortune was an NCAA Division II champion and two-time NJCAA champion. He once had a near death experience while cutting weight. [1] He attempted to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro prior to starting his MMA career. [2]

Fortune trains at Arizona Combat Sports along with current Bellator Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion Ryan Bader. [3]

He has a twin brother, Tyree Fortune, who is also a MMA fighter. [4]

Mixed martial arts career

Tyrell Fortune signed with Bellator MMA before he had competed in MMA. [5] He made his professional debut at Bellator 163 against Cody Miskell. [6] He won the fight by technical knockout in the first round. [7]

After winning his first seven fights in Bellator MMA, finishing 5 out of 7 opponents, Fortune faced Azunna Anyanwu at Bellator 233. [8] He won the fight by technical knockout in the second round, improving to an overal MMA record of 8-0. [9]
