USS Sagamore (AT-20) was a Bagaduce-class fleet tug which served in the United States Navy from 1917 to 1946.
Sagamore was originally laid down on 24 May 1917 as Commanche (SP-3296), as a steel-hulled ocean-going tug, at Buffalo Dry Dock Co., Buffalo, N.Y. under a War Shipping Board contract. Commanche was renamed Sagamore on 30 October 1917, launched in November 1917 and transferred to the Navy on 5 December 1917. She was completed and commissioned on 8 June 1918 at the Boston Navy Yard.
Sagamore was designated as a Fleet Tug (AT-20) on 17 July 1920. She was mostly employed in routine duties in New England. In March 1928 she was employed in the raising of the sunken submarine S-4. For his service in this operation, her commanding officer Chief Boatswain George Cregan, a Medal of Honor recipient, received the Navy Cross.
Sagamore was reclassified, Fleet Tug Old, (ATO-20) on 14 May 1944 and decommissioned on 31 August 1946, at the New York Navy Yard in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was struck from the Naval Register on 28 January 1947 and transferred to the Maritime Commission for disposal.
Sagamore was sold on 24 December 1947, to Hughes Brothers of New York City for $11,327. She was acquired in 1948 by McAllister Brothers Towing and renamed John E. McAllister. She was scrapped in 1953 at Baltimore, Maryland. [1]
USS Algonquin, completed as El Toro in 1891 for the Southern Pacific Railroad's Morgan Line, was a small harbor tug commissioned by the United States Navy 2 April 1898. Renamed Accomac, after Accomac, Virginia, June 1898, renamed Nottoway in 1918 and, after the Navy adopted alphanumeric hull numbers on 17 July 1920, classified as YT-18, a district tug. On 5 October 1942 the name was cancelled and the tug was simply YT-18 until 1944 when classification was changed to YTL-18, a little harbor tug. Over the years as a Navy tug, from 1898 to 1946, the tug served from Cuba to Boston.
USS Pocahontas (YT-266/YTB-266/YTM-266) was a type V2-ME-A1 Hiawatha-class yard tug in the United States Navy during World War II.
USS General J. H. McRae (AP-149) was a General G. O. Squier-class transport ship built for the United States Maritime Commission during World War II. In 1946 she was transferred to the US Army and operated as USAT General J. H. McRae. On 1 March 1950 she was transferred to Military Sea Transportation Service and operated as USNS General J. H. McRae (T-AP-149). She was named for US Army Major General James H. McRae.

The Type V ship is a United States Maritime Commission (MARCOM) designation for World War II tugboats. Type V was used in World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War. Type V ships were used to move ships and barges. Type V tugboats were made of either steel or wood hulls. There were four types of tugboats ordered for World War II. The largest type V design was the sea worthy 186-foot (57 m) long steel hull, V4-M-A1. The V4-M-A1 design was used by a number of manufacturers; a total of 49 were built. A smaller steel hull tugboat was the 94-foot (29 m) V2-ME-A1; 26 were built. The largest wooden hull was the 148-foot (45 m) V3-S-AH2, of which 14 were built. The smaller wooden hull was the 58-foot (18 m) V2-M-AL1, which 35 were built. Most V2-M-AL1 tugboats were sent to England for the war efforts under the lend-lease act. The Type V tugs served across the globe during World War II including: Pacific War, European theatre and in the United States. SS Farallon and other Type V tugs were used to help built Normandy ports, including Mulberry harbour, on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and made nine round trips to Normandy to deliver Phoenix breakwaters.
The Bagaduce class was a class of United States Navy fleet tugs. The first ship of the class, USS Bagaduce (AT-21) was laid down on 16 July 1918 at Buffalo, New York, by the Ferguson Steel and Iron Company. She was briefly named Ammonoosuc in February 1919, renamed Bagaduce on 24 February 1919, launched 5 April 1919, and commissioned at Buffalo on 18 September 1919. The Bagaduce was constructed as part of the World War I shipbuilding program, and was the first of 19 new steel tugs designed to serve as minesweepers and conduct heavy-duty towing work at navy yards.
