Ulviyya Hamzayeva (born 30 April 1982) is a politician and painter from Azerbaijan.

Education

Hamzayeva graduated from Nakhchivan State University in 2003. She is an author of monument raised in Nakhchivan to Genocide of Azerbaijanians. Studied MA in Arts and currently pursuing a PhD.

Career

Ulviyya has been teaching art and art history in Nakhchivan State University since 2005. She has been awarded with the title “Honored Artist of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic” in 2008. In 2009 she was awarded with the title “Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Republic” by President of Azerbaijan Republic. Ulviyya Hamzayeva has been elected as Chairman of “Artists Union of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic” in February 2011. Since 2013 she is real member of World Academy of Arts "New Era". Ulviyya Hamzayeva is a Member of National Assembly of Azerbaijan Republic since 2015. Her works belong to local museums, private and public collections.

Nakhchivan is the capital of the eponymous Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, located 450 km (280 mi) west of Baku. Nakhchivan State University (NSU) is a public university located in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan. Founded in 1967 as a part of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute, in 1990 it became the Nakhchivan State University. It has 703 faculty members and currently enrolls 35,000 students. In 2003, NSU, in conjunction with George Soros' Open Society Institute - Assistance Foundation opened an Education-Information Center on the NSU campus to develop areas involving education, information and law.

The Armenian cemetery in Julfa was a cemetery near the town of Julfa, in the Nakhchivan exclave of Azerbaijan that originally housed around 10,000 funerary monuments. The tombstones consisted mainly of thousands of khachkars – uniquely decorated cross-stones characteristic of medieval Christian Armenian art. The cemetery was still standing in the late 1990s, when the government of Azerbaijan began a systematic campaign to destroy the monuments.

Sakina Aliyeva Azerbaijani-Soviet politician

Sakina Aliyeva was an Azerbaijani-Soviet politician. From 1951, she served in various capacities in the Nakhchivan Regional Committee of the Communist Party. In 1963, she was elected Chair of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and served in that capacity until 1990. In January of that year, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union Aliyeva presented the declaration for Nakhchivan to secede from the USSR in protest of the Soviet actions during "Black January".
