Union-North United School Corporation comprises Union Township, including the town of Lakeville in St. Joseph County, Indiana, and North Township, including the town of La Paz in Marshall County, Indiana. The school corporation was organized July 1, 1962, and is governed by a five-member elected Board of School Trustees. LaVille Elementary School houses Grades K-6 and LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School comprises Grades 7–12. The school community is located approximately fifteen miles south of South Bend, Indiana, and approximately eight miles north of Plymouth, Indiana.

It was officially established in 1824 and was the fiftieth Indiana county created. Vermillion County is included in the Terre Haute, Indiana, Metropolitan Statistical Area. An interstate highway, two U.S. routes, and five state roads cross the county, as does a major railroad line.

The Kankakee River is a tributary of the Illinois River, approximately 133 miles (214 km) long, in the Central Corn Belt Plains of northwestern Indiana and northeastern Illinois in the United States. At one time, the river drained one of the largest wetlands in North America and furnished a significant portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River. Significantly altered from its original channel, it flows through a primarily rural farming region of reclaimed cropland, south of Lake Michigan.
