Urs Schwaller (born 31 October 1952 in Fribourg) is a Swiss politician. He was a member of the cantonal government of Fribourg, the Conseil d'Etat from 1992 to 2004. He then served in the Swiss Council of States for the Canton of Fribourg from 2003 to 2015. From 2005 to 2014 he was the parliamentary leader of the CVP/EVP/glp.

Enrico Celio was a Swiss lawyer, politician and journalist, a member of the Conservative Party, State Councilor and Federal Councilor. He was elected to the Federal Council of Switzerland on 22 February 1940 and handed over office on 15 October 1950. He was affiliated to the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland.

The Sonderbund War of November 1847 was a civil war in Switzerland, then still a relatively loose confederacy of cantons. It ensued after seven Catholic cantons formed the Sonderbund in 1845 to protect their interests against a centralization of power. The war concluded with the defeat of the Sonderbund. It resulted in the emergence of Switzerland as a federal state, concluding the period of political "restoration and regeneration" in Switzerland.
The Christian Social Party (CSP) (German: Christlich-soziale Partei, French: Parti chrétien-social) is a political party in Switzerland of the Christian left. The CSP is more aligned with social democracy than the other major Christian party, the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland (CVP), which is more economically liberal.
