Utsav Plus (formerly known as Star Plus UK) is a European Hindi-language general entertainment pay television channel operated by Disney Star, which is wholly owned by Disney India. Its programming consists of family dramas, comedies, youth-oriented reality shows, shows on crime, and television films. It is subtitled in English.

History

Star Plus launched in the United Kingdom in 2005.

Star Plus HD was set to launch in both the United Kingdom and Ireland by the end of 2011, [1] but it was delayed until 5 July 2012. [2]

Rebranding

On 12 July 2010, it underwent a rebranding along with a change from the blue rectangular logo to a ruby red star with the tagline "Rishta Wahi, Soch Nayi" ("Same Relationship, New Thinking"). [3]

On 7 November 2016, the company once again underwent a rebranding with the tagline "Nayi Soch" ("New Thinking"). [4]

On 4 June 2018, it underwent a rebranding with Alia Bhatt as the face of the campaign with the red crystal star with gold swoosh along with the tagline "Rishta Wahi, Baat Nayi" ("Same Relationship, New Thing") and signature song composed by A. R. Rahman. [5]

On 30 December 2020, Disney announced that the ‘Star’ branding in the Netherlands would be replaced with ‘Utsav’ in 2021. [6] On 11 January 2021, Star TV UK/Europe revealed that this new identity would apply in the UK and all of Europe from 22 January. [7] [8]

Programming

The channel launched two programming blocks: Star Dophar [9] and Star Zaika. [10]

The programming of Star Dophar consists of reruns of Star India serials. Reruns air in the Morning time slot along with afternoon also.

‘Star Zaika’ consists of cooking shows which are aired during different times of the day on both Utsav Plus and Utsav Bharat. Previously, it also aired international shows dubbed in Hindi. [11]

<i>Sabse Smart Kaun?</i> Indian TV series or programme

Sabse Smart Kaun? is a Hindi reality show aired on StarPlus. It premiered on 4 June 2018 on StarPlus. It was launched on StarPlus under the Rishta Wahi, Baat Nayi Campaign. The play-along feature enables the viewers to participate in each round using their phones enabling the game to be open for People who can play along through the Hotstar app.

The 25th Star Screen Awards ceremony honoured the best Indian Hindi-language films of 2018. The ceremony was held on 16 December 2018 and broadcast in India on Star Plus on 31 December 2018. Actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal hosted the event with comedian Sunil Grover, who hosted the technical awards segment. Additionally, Salman Khan introduced and concluded the awards ceremony.

Colors is an Indian general entertainment pay television channel owned by Viacom18. It was launched on 21 July 2008. Its programming consists of family dramas, comedies, fantasy shows, youth-oriented reality shows, shows on crime, and television films.
