Uusi tietosanakirja is an encyclopedia in Finnish. It was published as a series of 26 volumes in 1960 and 1972. It describes subjects from a Finnish point of view. Chief editor was Veli Valpola and publisher, Tietosanakirja Oy. The total number of articles is over 130,000. It was sold 30,000 series.

<i>Tietosanakirja</i> Finnish 11 volume encyclopedia

The Tietosanakirja, published in 11 volumes from 1909 to 1922, was the first Finnish language encyclopedia. It was published by Tietosanakirja-Osakeyhtiö, a joint effort between Otava and WSOY. The name of the series was adopted into the Finnish language to mean all encyclopedias, so to differentiate, the series became colloquially known as Iso musta tietosanakirja.

Gummerus Oy is a Finnish media group that was founded in Jyväskylä in 1872 by Karl Jacob Gummerus. In 1985, it moved its headquarters from Jyväskylä to Helsinki. In 2008, it had an annual turnover of EUR 26,9 million. Annually, it publishes approximately 200 new titles, which are sold in bookstores, department stores and book clubs.

Facta is an encyclopedia in Finnish. It was published as a series of 11 volumes with more than 150,000 entries between 1969 and 1974. It describes subjects from a Finnish point of view. It was run by editors in chief Veli Valpola and Maija Numminen and published by Tietosanakirja Oy. Editions were eventually also published on CD-ROM, and Facta finally lived as an Internet service, but was discontinued at the end of 2011 as unprofitable.

Uusi tietosanakirja (1929) is an encyclopedia in Finnish. It was published as a series of 2 volumes in 1929 and 1932. It describes subjects from a Finnish point of view. Chief editor was Väinö Hämeen-Anttila and publisher, Karisto.

Otso Uolevi Wartiovaara was a Finnish diplomat. He graduated as a Bachelor of Law in 1934 and served as a Counselor in Washington D.C., 1949–1952. He was head of the administrative department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 1952–1954, head of the Legal Department 1954–1956, and then he was the Envoy in Belgrade 1956–1958 and Athens 1956–1961 and Ambassador in Vienna in 1961–1968 and at the same time Finland's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as Ambassador to London 1968–1974.

Timo Jussi Jalkanen was a Finnish diplomat and jurist. He served as the Finnish Ambassador to Iran and Pakistan from 1983 to 1987, in the Philippines from 1987 to 1990 and in Ireland from 1996 to 2001. He also served as office manager for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs between 1978 and 1983, Deputy Director General of the Protocol Department from 1990 to 1995 and has been the head of department since 1995.

David Johansson is a Finnish diplomat and ambassador. He was the Finnish Ambassador to Nairobi and Addis Ababa 1990–1995. Prior to that he was Deputy Director General of the Development Cooperation Department 1983-1987 and Head of Department 1987–1990 in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Garth Christopher Castrén is a Finnish diplomat, a master of political science education. He has been Finnish Ambassador to Lusaka, 1984–1987, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, 1987, Deputy Director of the Development Cooperation Department 1988–1989, Consul General in New York City–1992 and Ambassador to Cairo 1992–1997 and in Ankara from 2000 to 2004.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Southern Lapland</span> Region of Lapland in Finnland

Southern Lapland was the northernmost part of the historical province of Ostrobothnia, and has sometimes been considered a separate region, but it is now part of the Lapland region. It belonged to the province of Oulu for a long time, but from 1938 it formed the southern part of the province of Lapland, which was founded that year. Parts of the Salla-Kuusamo area, which included the easternmost part of southern Lapland, were ceded to the Soviet Union in 1940, after the end of the Winter War and again in 1944, after the end of the Continuation War.
