Valentine is a historic neighborhood in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri. It is just north of the Westport entertainment district, bounded by Broadway on the east, Southwest Trafficway on the west, 31st Street on the north, and 40th Street on the south. [1]

Most of the houses in Valentine were built in the early 1900s and include such styles as Shirtwaist, Arts and Crafts, Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, and bungalow. [2]

The Valentine Neighborhood Association was formed in 1971. The first president was Joe Cigas, for whom a street is named. [3]

The neighborhood contains numerous residences, retail establishments, entertainment venues, and restaurants including the American Restaurant, the only Forbes Travel Guide four-star restaurant in Missouri. It is home to Hallmark Cards, and the headquarters of Shook, Hardy & Bacon and Lathrop GPM, two of Kansas City's largest law firms.

Linwood Boulevard is a boulevard and major east–west street in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. Linwood begins at Broadway Boulevard in the Valentine and Old Hyde Park neighborhoods and travels 3.8 miles east through Midtown to Van Brunt Boulevard near Interstate 70 in the Kansas City East Side. For much of its length, it creates a high-density corridor with 31st Street, another major street running parallel one block north. The Knickerbocker Apartments were located at 501-535 Knickerbocker Place in the Valentine Neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. The Late 19th and 20th Century Revival style building was designed by Leon Grant Middaugh and J.A. Rose, and was built in 1909. It is significant for its architecture, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. It was demolished in 2020.

Louis Singleton Curtiss was a Canadian-born American architect. Notable as a pioneer of the curtain wall design, he was once described as "the Frank Lloyd Wright of Kansas City". There are approximately 30 examples of his work still extant in Kansas City, Missouri where Curtiss spent his career, including his best known design, the Boley Clothing Company Building. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Raphael Hotel</span>

The Raphael Hotel is a historic nine-story hotel located at 325 Ward Parkway in the Country Club Plaza district in Kansas City, Missouri. It is a locally significant landmark that originally opened in 1928 as Villa Serena Apartments, a block of luxury apartments. Its Italian Renaissance Revival style architecture was designed to complement the Spanish style of the nascent Country Club Plaza developed in the early 1920s.

The Penn Valley Redevelopment Project was a 1971 plan to demolish homes in Kansas City’s Valentine Neighborhood and to replace them with a multimillion-dollar office and residential complex.
