Thakur Vijay Pal Singh (born 1923) [1] is an Indian scientist associated with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is known for his contributions to the science of rice breeding. A post graduate and a doctoral degree (PhD) holder in Agriculture Botany from Agra University, he started his career as a research assistant at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi [1] and is a professor at the ICAR sponsored Centre of Advanced Faculty Training in Agronomy. [2] Singh is credited with a book, Responses of Irrigation Scheduling and I.N.M. on Scented Rice [3] and several articles published in peer reviewed journals. [4] He was honored by the Government of India, in 2012, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri. [5]

The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), commonly known as the Pusa Institute, is India's national Institute for agricultural research, education and extension. The name Pusa Institute is derived from the fact that the institute was originally located in Pusa Bihar as the Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research in 1911. Pusa 1121 is an essentially derived variety evolved through the process of hybridization over a long breeding process. The variety of basmati rice was developed by Padma Shri awardee Vijaypal Singh and his student Ashok Kumar Sarial. This variety of rice is known for its extraordinary kernel (grain) length, which can be as much as 8.4 millimetres (0.33 in) for a single grain, the longest-ever known released cultivar in the world. It has very high kernel elongation ratio ranging from 2 to 2.5, i.e. length of cooked rice kernel/length of uncooked kernel. When cooked, the rice does not turn sticky, possesses minimum breadth-wise expansion, and is aromatic with intermediate alkali-spreading value and amylose content.
Vijay Kumar Dada is an Indian ophthalmologist and a consultant at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. An alumnus and a former chief of the Dr. R. P. Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, he has written several articles on eye diseases such as cataract and glaucoma. Dada, an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, was honored by the Government of India, in 2002, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri.

Akhilesh Kumar Tyagi is an Indian plant biologist and the former director of National Institute of Plant Genome Research. Known for his studies on plant genomics and biotechnology, Tyagi is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies namely Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and National Academy of Sciences, India as well as The World Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences in 1999.
