Nord-Trøndelag was a county constituting the northern part of the present-day Trøndelag county in Norway. It bordered the old Sør-Trøndelag county as well as the county of Nordland. To the west is the Norwegian Sea, and to the east is Jämtland in Sweden. The county was established in 1804 when the old Trondhjems amt was divided into two: Nordre Trondhjems amt and Søndre Trondhjems amt. In 2016, the two county councils voted to merge (back) into a single county on 1 January 2018.

Namdal District Court was a district court in Trøndelag county, Norway. The court was based in the town of Namsos in Namsos Municipality. The court existed until 2021. It served the municipalities of Flatanger, Fosnes, Grong, Høylandet, Leka, Lierne, Namsos, Namsskogan, Nærøy, Overhalla, Røyrvik, and Vikna. Cases from this court could be appealed to Frostating Court of Appeal.

Mellom-Vikna is the smallest of the three major islands in Nærøysund Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The 57-square-kilometre (22 sq mi) island is the site of Vikna Wind Farm near Garstad. The island is the middle island of the three main islands in the Vikna archipelago, hence its name which means "middle-Vikna". The Norwegian County Road 770 connects the three islands to the mainland via the Nærøysund Bridge.

Vikna Wind Farm was a wind farm located on Husfjellet, just west of the village of Garstad on the island Mellom-Vikna in Nærøysund Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The wind farm consisted of five wind turbines, with an installed capacity of 2.2 megawatts (3,000 hp), with an average annual production of 5.8 gigawatt-hours (21 TJ). The wind farm began operation in 1991 and was owned by Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk. It was decommissioned in 2015.

Valøy Church is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Nærøysund Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Valøya on the western coast of the island of Ytter-Vikna. It is an annex chapel for the Vikna parish which is part of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The wooden chapel building is a former school building in Valøya. It was converted to a chapel in 1972 and the building was consecrated on 20 August 1972 by Bishop Tord Godal. The church seats about 150 people.

Garstad Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Nærøysund Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Garstad on the island of Mellom-Vikna. It is the main church for the Vikna parish which is part of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1856. The church seats about 320 people.

The municipality was established on 1 January 2020 after the merger of the old Vikna Municipality and Nærøy Municipality. The municipality is unique in that it has two equal administrative centres: Kolvereid and Rørvik. The other main population centres of Nærøysund include Abelvær, Foldereid, Gravvika, Ottersøya, Salsbruket, Steine, Torstad, Austafjord, Ramstad, Garstad, and Valøya.

Lauvøya is an island in Nærøysund Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The island lies along the Nærøysundet, northeast of the island of Inner-Vikna. The island of Gjerdinga lies just northeast of Lauvøya.
