It is located in the central region of the island bordering on the Atlantic Ocean to the north, Matanzas Province to the west, Sancti Spiritus Province to the east, and Cienfuegos Province to the South. Villa Clara shares with Cienfuegos and Sancti Spiritus on the south the Escambray Mountain Range. Emily Borrell Cruz is a Cuban female volleyball player. She is a member of the Cuba women's national volleyball team and played for Villa Clara in 2014.

Ricardo Norberto Calvo Manzano is a Cuban male volleyball player. He was part of the Cuba men's national volleyball team at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Poland. He played for Villa Clara. He didn't play in the Rio Olympics in 2016, because he was one of six players of the Cuban national volleyball team that were suspected of committing aggravated rape in July 2016 in Tampere, Finland. In September 2016 he was sentenced to five years in prison.
