Starka is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented rye mash. Traditionally Starka is made from natural rye spirit and aged in oak barrels with small additions of linden-tree and apple-tree leaves. The methods of production are similar to those used in making whisky. Sold in various grades, the most notable difference between them is the length of the aging period, varying from 3 to over 50 years, and the natural colour which is obtained from the reaction between the alcohol and the oak barrel, not from the additives.
Medininkai is a village in Lithuania, located 26 km (16 mi) from Vilnius and 2 km (1.2 mi) from the Lithuanian–Belarusian border. According to the 2001 census, the village had 508 residents. Medininkai is the administrative center of an eldership. According to a 2010 eldership report, it had 1374 residents, of whom 92,3% were Polish, 3.2% Lithuanian, and 2.9% Russian.

The Voivode of Vilnius was a high-ranking officer in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania who governed the Vilnius Voivodeship from 1413. He was considered as number one member of the Lithuanian Council of Lords. After the Union of Lublin in 1569, the Voivodes of Vilnius were ranked as the fourth highest, while the Castellans of Vilnius were ranked as the sixth highest officers among the Voivodeships of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. After the Third Partition of the Commonwealth, the Vilnius Voivodeship was annexed by the Russian Empire and this position was defunct.
The Great Seimas of Vilnius was a major assembly held on December 4 and 5, 1905 in Vilnius, Lithuania, then part of the Russian Empire, largely inspired by the Russian Revolution of 1905. It was the first modern national congress in Lithuania and dealt primarily not with the social issues that sparked the revolution, but with national concerns. Over 2,000 participants took part in the Seimas. The assembly made the decision to demand wide political autonomy within the Russian Empire and achieve this by peaceful means. It is considered an important step towards the Act of Independence of Lithuania, adopted on February 16, 1918 by the Council of Lithuania, as the Seimas laid the groundwork for the establishment of an independent Lithuanian state.
