During the Republic the first series of large-scale Dutch migrations outside of Europe took place.
Les Mamelles de Tirésias is an opéra bouffe by Francis Poulenc, in a prologue and two acts based on the eponymous play by Guillaume Apollinaire. The opera was written in 1945 and first performed in 1947. Apollinaire's play, written in 1903, was revised with a sombre prologue by the time it premiered during World War I in France. For the opera, Poulenc incorporated both the farcical and the serious aspects of the original play, which according to one critic displays a "high-spirited topsy-turveydom" that conceals "a deeper and sadder theme – the need to repopulate and rediscover a France ravaged by war."
Hex, or Hex Media, were a London-based multimedia group founded in the early 1990s by artist Robert Pepperell, coder Miles Visman and the DJ duo Coldcut. Ygdrassil was a Dutch harmony singing folk duo, that consisted of the singer/songwriters Linde Nijland and Annemarieke Coenders. The band is named for the Yggdrasil, the tree of life in traditional Nordic belief.
For 15 years Linde Nijland was part of harmony singing folk duo Ygdrassil. 2007 marked the preliminary end of the group and Linde continued her career as a solo singer/songwriter. She has toured The Netherlands, UK, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Iran, India and Bhutan. Apart from five albums and a live DVD with Ygdrassil, she's recorded "Visman" (1999), "Linde Nijland sings Sandy Denny" (2003), "Winterliederen" (2007), "A Musical Journey" (2011) and "I Am Here" (2014).

Aarne Viisimaa was an Estonian operatic tenor and opera director. He was notably the director of the Estonian National Opera from 1927–1944. As an opera singer, he performed such roles as Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Lenski in Eugene Onegin, Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Tamino in The Magic Flute, and the title roles in Faust and Lohengrin among others. He is buried in the Metsakalmistu cemetery in Tallinn, Estonia.

The Egidius Kwartet is a Dutch vocal ensemble specialising in the music of the Franco-Flemish school, in particular of the Habsburgs, Margaret of Austria, governor of the Netherlands and her court at Mechelen. The ensemble was formed by four members of Ton Koopman's Amsterdam Baroque Choir in 1995.
