South African Standard Time (SAST) is the time zone used by all of South Africa as well as Eswatini and Lesotho. The zone is two hours ahead of UTC (UTC+02:00) and is the same as Central Africa Time. Daylight saving time is not observed in either time zone. The qualification for 2004 Men's Olympic Volleyball Tournament was held from 7 September 2003 to 30 May 2004.

The qualification for the 2008 Men's Olympic Volleyball Tournament was held from 1 September 2007 to 8 June 2008.

The 2012–13 Women's FIH Hockey World League Round 1 was held from August to December 2012. A total of 28 teams competing in 6 events took part in this round of the tournament playing for 15 berths in the Round 2, played in February and March 2013.

Group A of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations ran from 19 January until 27 January. It consisted of South Africa (hosts), Angola, Morocco and Cape Verde. The matches were held in the South African cities of Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

Group B of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations ran from 20 January until 28 January. It consisted of Ghana, Mali, Niger and Congo DR. The matches were held in the South African cities of Port Elizabeth and Durban.

The 2014–15 Women's FIH Hockey World League Round 1 was held from June to December 2014. A total of 31 teams competing in 7 events were part in this round of the tournament playing for 15 berths in the Round 2, played in February and March 2015.

The 2014–15 Men's FIH Hockey World League Round 2 was held from January to March 2015. A total of 24 teams competed in 3 events in this round of the tournament playing for 9 berths in the Semifinals, to be played in June and July 2015.

The qualification for the 2016 Women's Olympic volleyball tournament was held from 22 August 2015 to 22 May 2016. Twelve teams qualified, the hosts, the FIVB World Cup champion and runner-up, five continental Olympic qualification tournament champions, and four teams from the World Olympic qualification tournament respectively. Teams already qualified for the event were not eligible to play in the following qualification tournaments.

The 2016 FIVB Volleyball World League was the 27th edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament which was played by a record of 36 teams from 16 June to 17 July 2016. The Group 1 final round was held in Kraków, Poland. After being runners-up on five occasions, Serbia finally claimed their first World League after prevailing over Brazil in straight sets. The defending champions France claimed their first ever bronze medal at the World League after a fast victory in straight sets against Italy. Marko Ivović was elected the most valuable player.

The 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League was the 28th edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament played by 36 teams between 2 June and 8 July. The Group 1 Final Round was held in Curitiba, Brazil.

The 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix was the 25th edition of the annual women's international volleyball tournament played by 32 teams between 7 July and 6 August. The Group 1 Final Round was held in Nanjing, China.

The 2017 Men's African Volleyball Championship was the 21st edition of the Men's African Volleyball Championship, a biennial international volleyball tournament organised by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB). Top three teams which had registered for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship qualified for the 2018 World Championship.
