Traversing the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller in St. Catharines to Port Colborne, it enables ships to ascend and descend the Niagara Escarpment and bypass Niagara Falls. It is the fourth canal connecting these waterways; three smaller predecessors also bore the same name.

King's Highway 140, commonly referred to as Highway 140, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The highway connects Port Colborne near Lake Erie with Highway 406 in Welland, via the Main Street Tunnel. It was constructed in the early 1970s as part of the Welland Bypass project of the Welland Canal, which resulted in the severance of several highways and rail lines. Opened to traffic in late 1972, several months following the tunnel, Highway 140 has remained unchanged since, despite growing calls to resign it as an extension of Highway 406.

World Congress of Soil Science

The World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS) is a conference held every four years under the guidance of the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS). The purpose of a congress is to: (i) ensure the advancement of soil science and its application, and (ii) to handle the business of the society. Of the 18 congresses, eight have been held in Europe, five in the Americas, three in Asia, one in Australia and one in Africa. The congresses are only open to society members. The number of members attending has steadily increased, with approximately 2000 members attending each congress since the 15th WCSS in Acapulco, Mexico.

Welland Centennial Secondary School (WCSS) is a public high school located in Welland, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1966 and offers Secondary School education for grades nine to twelve, as well as the extended French certificate program. The school mascot is the Cougar and the school colours are Blue, Orange and White. Welland Centennial Secondary School has varsity Soccer, as well as Senior and Junior Football, which the Junior Football team won a championship in 2013 with Derek Peters being the mvp for that game; Basketball, Curling, Volleyball, Badminton, and Tennis. Welland Centennial also offers intramural programs during lunch hours. WCSS is well known for their arts programs, including Drama, Dance, Vocal Music and Instrumental Music. The drama department is responsible for a large-scale dramatic performance each year. The performances, which include Canadian plays and broadway musicals, are often accompanied by the instrumental departments accompaniment band. Additionally, the school has two instrumental bands: The Cats Band which is the Jazz band of the school is a Jazz big-band with a full vocal section; and The Concert Band is a classic concert band with Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and small String sections. The school is home to students from around southern Niagara because of the extended French program. These students are transported to and from school, by bus, as far as Wainfleet and Port Colborne.

The European Social Simulation Association (ESSA) is a scientific society aimed at promoting the development of social simulation research, education and application in Europe. It has over 350 members from several European countries.
