Wad Madani Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Wad Madani, Sudan. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Ittihad Wad Medani, Al Ahly Wad Medani and Jazeerat Alfeel. The stadium has a capacity of 15,000 people. It hosted several matches during the 1970 African Cup of Nations in Sudan.

Gezira, also spelt Al Jazirah, is one of the 18 states of Sudan. The state lies between the Blue Nile and the White Nile in the east-central region of the country. It has an area of 27,549 km2. The name comes from the Arabic word for island. Wad Madani is the capital of the state. Gezira is known as an irrigated cotton-producing state as it is a well-populated area that is suitable for agriculture.
The 1970 African Cup of Nations was the seventh edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the soccer championship of Africa (CAF). It was hosted by Sudan. Just like in 1968, the field of eight teams was split into two groups of four. Sudan won its first championship, beating Ghana in the final 1−0.

Their home stadium is Stade Wad Medani. Their rival is Ahli Madani, a team which is in the same city as Itthad Madani. The derby in Madani is called Madani Derby, which is one of the biggest derby in Sudan.

The 2009 CECAFA U-17 Championship was the 2nd edition of the CECAFA U-17 Championship organized bt CECAFA (Council of East and Central Africa Football Association. The second edition of the CEFAFA U-17 Championship, all games were originally to be played in Nairobi, Kenya but have since been moved to Sudan. due to financial reasons, the Sudanese FA and El Merreikh Investment Group have agreed to sponsor the tournament.

The competition started on 18 February 2009 with a 1–1 draw between Al-Mourada and Merghani Kassala. For the 2009 season, the number of teams had been expanded from 12 to 13 teams. Al-Merreikh were the defending champions.
The 2008 Sudan Premier League was the 37th edition of the highest club level football competition in Sudan. The competition started on February 21 with Al-Ittihad 1-0 win over Amal Atbara, and concluded on November 17 with 1-1 draw between Al-Hilal Omdurman and Al-Merreikh. Al-Merreikh were crowned champions.

He served as head of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) office in the West Bank and Gaza, Chief of Mission of the OHCHR in Zagreb, Croatia, legal advisor to the Special Representative of the U.N Secretary-General in Iraq as well as Afghanistan, and a Regional Representative for the OHCHR in Beirut, Lebanon. He was the 1991 recipient of the Human Rights Watch Award for Human Rights Monitoring and 1991 Recipient of the American Bar Association Human Rights Award, as well as the 2013 recipient for the European Union Human Rights award.
