Spiro Sports Center is a 2,100-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Wagner College in Staten Island, New York. It was built in 1999 as an extensive addition to the Sutter Gymnasium, which was constructed in 1951. The center is home to the Wagner College Seahawks men's and women's basketball team. The Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was held there in 1999, 2003, 2016, and 2018.
The Wagner Seahawks are composed of 23 teams representing Wagner College in intercollegiate athletics. Sports sponsored for both men and women are basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, tennis, track & field, and water polo. Sports sponsored only for men are baseball and football. Women-only sports are fencing, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, and triathlon, and field hockey. The Seahawks compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Northeast Conference for all sports except water polo, in which the women compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and the men compete in the Collegiate Water Polo Association, and triathlon, in which all currently competing NCAA institutions are officially classified as independents.
Heather N. Zurich is an American former basketball player and coach. She played college basketball for Rutgers University from 2005 to 2009 before playing professionally for one season in the Netherlands. Following her playing career, she became a college basketball coach.

The team has been a member of the Northeast Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I, since 1987. Wagner College's first baseball team was first fielded in 1945. The Seahawks are coached by Craig Noto. The Seahawks have won one Northeast Conference baseball tournament and one Northeast Conference regular season championship, in 2000 and 2009 respectively. Wagner has appeared in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship once, in 2000.

They finished the season 25–6, 15–3 in NEC play to finish in second place. They lost in the semifinals of the NEC Basketball tournament to Robert Morris. Despite having 25 wins, the Seahawks did not accept an invitation to a post season tournament.

The Seahawks were led by the youngest men's head coach in NCAA Division I, Bashir Mason, who was 28 when he was elevated from an assistant position in March 2012 following the departure of Dan Hurley for Rhode Island. The Seahawks played their home games at Spiro Sports Center and were members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 19–12, 12–6 in NEC play to finish in a three-way tie for second place. They advanced to the semifinals of the Northeast tournament where they lost to Long Island. For the second consecutive year, despite a winning record, Wagner choose not to participate in a post season tournament.

They played their home games at Spiro Sports Center on the College's Staten Island campus and were members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 23–11, 13–5 in NEC play to win the regular season championship. They defeated Robert Morris and LIU Brooklyn to advance to the championship game of the NEC tournament where they lost to Fairleigh Dickinson. As a regular season conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated St. Bonaventure in the first round before losing in the second round to Creighton.

As a regular season conference champion who did not win their conference tournament, they received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Baylor.
