Wanda & Joyce was a 1960s Netherlands based mother and daughter act made up of Wanda de Fretes and her mother Joyce Aubrey.
Joyce Aubrey was the ex-wife of steel guitarist George de Fretes and Wanda was their daughter. [1] [2] As an act they lasted from 1962 to 1964. They sang Hawaiian and krontjong songs. [3] Originally from Indonesia, they were based in The Hague.". [4]
Prior to teaming up with her daughter, Joyce Aubrey was a singer in the Mena Moeria Minstrels and the Amboina Serenaders. [5] She also recorded as a solo artist with two singles on Fontana, "Heimwee naar Soerabaya" bw "Droomschilderij" in 1960, and "Carolina melodie" bw "Cowboy Jimmy Jo" in 1961. [6] And Wanda de Frete's had released a version of "Let's twist again" on Decca. [7]
Their first single "Ajoen Ajoen" bw "Koleh Koleh" was released on Fontana in September 1962. [8] [9] It did well for them. [10] By November 1962, they had achieved a good level of popularity. Prior to that, Fontana has already released an EP with the songs "Ajoen ajoen", "Patokaän", "Rasa sajang keneh" and - "Koleh koleh". [11] Their last single was "Dayung-dayung" which came out in 1964. [12]
In later years Wanda de Fretes moved to California. [13]
During their time recording together, they released nine singles and three extended play records. [14]

Fontana Records is a record label that was started in the 1950s as a subsidiary of the Dutch Philips Records. The independent label distributor Fontana Distribution takes its name from the label.
Gwendolyn Dianne Brooks, was an American soul, r&b and jazz singer. With the Three Playmates, Brooks recorded several songs in 1957. She moved to Toronto shortly thereafter. Her part in Canadian soul music history began when the group Diane Brooks, Eric Mercury and the Soul Searchers was formed. As a solo singer, she recorded two albums and several singles of her own. Her biggest solo hit was "Walkin' on My Mind" in 1969. She was also a prolific session singer. As a vocalist, she provided backing vocals on albums by a multitude of artists that include Anne Murray, Gino Vannelli and Richie Havens. She was also a song-writer.
Bloem de Wilde de Ligny is a Dutch singer-songwriter, producer, visual artist and musician based in the United Kingdom. de Ligny has released music as a solo artist and as a member of various bands, including Fono & Serafina, Polichinelle, 4Fists, and Sam and the Womp. Her image and vocal style have often been compared to Björk. She has also performed under the names Bloem, Bloem de Wilde de Ligny, Serafina Ouistiti, Oo is an Instrument, Lady Oo, Bloom and most recently Bloom de Wilde.
The Revels were an American rock band from California, associated with the 1960s surf music craze. They had hits with "Six Pak", and "Church Key" which was their most famous single.
Impact Records was a California based record label run by CT Records creator, Tony Hilder in the 1960s. This label released some surf records by The Crestwoods, Dave Myers and The Surftones, The Ramblers and The New Breed and The Revels. The Revels were known for the hits "Comanche" and "Intoxica".

Rudi Wairata aka Rudy Wairata(1929/1930 –1981) was an influential Indonesian musician who had fronted the Mena Moeria Minstrels and the Amboina Serenaders. Wairata's style of playing was influenced by Sol Hoʻopiʻi and Andy Iona. Along with George de Fretes he was a prominent musician in the genre of Hawaiian steel guitar music. His song "Rock'n Roll Breezes" may be the first Indo-rock song.
Ming Luhulima, also known as Lou Lima was a Netherlands-based recording artist originally from the Maluku Islands, which were part of the Dutch East Indies. He was closely associated with Rudi Wairata during his career. Luhulima was a member of the Amboina Serenaders and the Mena Moeria Minstrels, and also led the Krontjong Ensemble Pantja Warna.
George de Fretes (1921-1981) was a musician from Indonesia who found fame in the Netherlands. Like his fellow countrymen Ming Luhulima and Rudi Wairata, he found sizable popularity in the Netherlands and Europe playing Hawaiian music.

The Mena Moeria Minstrels were a popular Netherlands based Hawaiian music group. They were made up of mainly Moluccans from the former Dutch East Indies colony. The group was originally led by steel guitarist Rudi Wairata and also featured Joyce Aubrey and Ming Luhulima. They were prolific in their output releasing at least twenty singles in the 1950s.
Coy Pereira (1919-2005) was a Netherlands-based guitarist and steel guitarist originally from Batavia in the Dutch East Indies. He was a member of the Kilima Hawaiians and had recorded with the Mena Moeria Minstrels as well as having work released under his own name. He is said to be in the same class of fellow steel guitarists, George de Fretes and Rudi Wairata.
Rosy Pereira is an Indonesian-Dutch pop singer. She is the daughter of steel guitarist Coy Pereira. She released singles in the 1960s under her name as well as Babe Pereira. In the mid to late 1970s she was the other half of the duo Rosy & Andres who had a hit with "My Love".
