Wanderers Special Club (often abbreviated as Wanderers SC) were a football club based in Auckland, New Zealand.

The team was age-restricted, and featured only players below 20 years of age. The club was formed to develop players for the New Zealand national under-20 football team in preparation for the then up-coming 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, hosted in New Zealand. [2] New Zealand Football High Performance Director Fred de Jong said that "one of the objectives is to retain our top young players in New Zealand for longer, and entry into the ASB Premiership gives us an opportunity to prepare in a cost effective manner when compared to touring the team internationally." The New Zealand Under 20s football (soccer) team, more commonly known as the Junior All Whites, is controlled by New Zealand Football and represents New Zealand in international Under 20 or youth football competitions. The 25,000 capacity North Harbour Stadium is used for home games of the Junior All Whites.
The 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup was the twentieth edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup since its inception in 1977 as the FIFA World Youth Championship. The competition took place for the first time in New Zealand, the third time on Oceanian soil after Australia staged the 1981 and 1993 editions. A total of 52 matches were played in seven host cities.
Fred de Jong is a New Zealand former football striker who represented his country in the 1980s and early 1990s.
The club is considered to be a continuation of Northern-Based, an under-17 team that played in the ASB Youth League and provided several players to New Zealand for the 2013 OFC U-17 Championship. [3]
The National Youth League (NYL) is the premier competition for youth football players in New Zealand. Founded in 2003, it is a league competition consisting of the youth teams of each of the ten clubs in the New Zealand Football Championship. It is held each season between October and December, and consists of each team playing each other once; the fixture list mirrors that of the senior league.
The 2013 OFC U-17 Championship was the 15th edition of the OFC's Under 17 championship, the biennial football championship of the Oceanian Confederation. All matches took place at Chapuis stadium, Luganville in Vanuatu from 17 to 27 April. 6 teams contested the final round of the Championship after the Solomon Islands Football Federation withdrew, as it could only financially support its Beach Soccer and Fustal sides in national competition.
The team entered the 2013–14 ASB Premiership season, replacing outgoing YoungHeart Manawatu. [4]
