The Big Sky Conference is a collegiate athletic conference, affiliated with the NCAA's Division I with football competing in the Football Championship Subdivision. As of 2024, ten full member institutions are located in the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. Two affiliate members from California are football–only participants.

Arizona's chief intercollegiate rival is the Arizona State Sun Devils, and the two universities' athletic departments compete against each other in multiple sports via the State Farm Territorial Cup Series.
The Boise State Broncos are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Boise State University, located in Boise, Idaho. The Broncos compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Mountain West Conference (MW). The Broncos have a successful athletic program overall, winning the WAC commissioner's cup for the 2005–06 and 2009–10 years. On September 12th, 2024, Boise State announced it will be leaving the Mountain West and joining the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026.
The Villanova Wildcats are the athletic teams of Villanova University. They compete in the Big East for every sport; except football and women's rowing where they compete in the Coastal Athletic Association, and women's water polo where the compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. On December 15, 2012, Villanova and the other six, non-FBS schools announced that they were departing the Big East for a new conference. This conference assumed the Big East name on July 1, 2013.

The university sponsors thirteen teams including men and women's basketball, cross country, tennis, and track and field; women's-only golf, soccer, softball, and volleyball; and men's-only football. The Bengals compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level and are currently a member institution of the Big Sky Conference.
The North Dakota Fighting Sioux women's basketball team is part of the athletic program at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Wildcats were led by eighth year head coach Randy Rahe and played their home games at the Dee Events Center. They were members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 19–12, 14–6 in Big Sky play to win the Big Sky regular season championship. They were also champions of the Big Sky Conference tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the second round to Arizona.
The 1976 Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 5–6 at the Wildcat Gym at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. This was the first edition of the tournament.
Joel Bolomboy is a Ukrainian-born Russian professional basketball player for Crvena zvezda of the Serbian KLS, the ABA League and the EuroLeague. He played college basketball for the Weber State Wildcats, where he was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Year in 2016. He was born in Ukraine but received Russian citizenship in 2018.
The Arizona Wildcats women's basketball program is the official women's basketball program at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Basketball is one of eleven women's sports at the University of Arizona. The team is a Division I member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Big 12 athletic conference. The team's home venue is the McKale Center, which seats 14,545 fans. The official team colors are cardinal red and navy blue. The Wildcats have qualified for eight NCAA Tournaments. On August 4, 2023, Arizona announced it would join the Big 12 Conference along with Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah beginning in the 2024-25 academic year.

They finished the season 13–18, 6–12 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for eighth place. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big Sky women's tournament, where they lost to Montana State.

The Wildcats were led by sixth year head coach Bethann Ord and played their home games at the Dee Events Center. They were members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 21–10, 11–7 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for third place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky women's tournament to Idaho State. They were invited to the WBI, where they defeated Texas Southern in the first round before losing to Central Arkansas in the quarterfinals.
The 1974–75 Weber State Wildcats men's basketball team represented Weber State College during the 1974–75 NCAA Division I basketball season. Members of the Big Sky Conference, the Wildcats were led by fourth-year head coach Gene Visscher and played their home games on campus at Wildcat Gym in Ogden, Utah. They were 11–15 overall and 6–8 in conference play.
