Weevil were a British indietronica duo from London, formed in 1999, consisting of Jonny Pilcher and Tom Betts.

History

After releasing their self-titled debut album in 2001, were signed by Wichita Recordings. In 2004 they toured as part of Wichita's 'The Music Machines' touring package along with Bravecaptain and Her Space Holiday. [1] Second album Drunk on Light was released in 2004, prompting comparisons with The Postal Service, Four Tet, and Aphex Twin. [2] [3] Les Inrockuptibles described the album as having elements of shoegazing and "cut and paste electronica". [4] "Halfsmile" was released as a single in June 2004. [5]

Wichita Recordings London-based independent record label

Wichita Recordings is an independent record label located in London, founded in 2000 by Mark Bowen and Dick Green. Its most notable signees include Bloc Party, The Cribs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Best Coast, Los Campesinos! and Peter Bjorn and John. The label signed Clap Your Hands Say Yeah for a UK distribution deal for the group's debut album. They also signed the UK producers Simian Mobile Disco for the UK.

Her Space Holiday is the recording moniker of indietronic and indie rock artist Marc Bianchi.

The Postal Service American indie rock band

The Postal Service was an American indie pop supergroup from Seattle, Washington, consisting of singer Ben Gibbard, producer Jimmy Tamborello, and Jenny Lewis on background vocals.

Portions of "Bytecry" from the album Drunk On Light were used for the Mac OS X Tiger intro video, which usually plays on the first bootup of any Mac installed with Mac OS X 10.4. [6]

Mac OS X Tiger fifth major release of OS X

Mac OS X Tiger is the fifth major release of Mac OS X, Apple's desktop and server operating system for Mac computers. Tiger was released to the public on April 29, 2005 for US$129.95 as the successor to Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. Some of the new features included a fast searching system called Spotlight, a new version of the Safari web browser, Dashboard, a new 'Unified' theme, and improved support for 64-bit addressing on Power Mac G5s. Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger shocked executives at Microsoft by offering a number of features, such as fast file searching and improved graphics processing, that Microsoft had spent several years struggling to add to Windows with acceptable performance.

Orphaned Land is an Israeli heavy metal band, formed in 1991 under the name Resurrection, that combines Jewish, Arabic, and other West Asian influences. They are considered 'The pioneers of Oriental Metal'. The band has gone through several lineup changes over the years, but has retained two of the founding members, Kobi Farhi (vocals) and Uri Zelcha (bass). They are joined by Matan Shmuely (drums), Chen Balbus (guitar/keyboard) who replaced co-founding member Matti Svatizky in 2012, and Idan Amsalem (guitars/bouzouki) who replaced co-founding member Yossi Sassi in early 2014. Their lyrics promote a message of peace and unity, particularly between the three main Abrahamic religions.

<i>Silent Alarm</i> 2005 studio album by Bloc Party

Silent Alarm is the debut studio album by British indie rock band Bloc Party. Recorded in Copenhagen and London in mid-2004 with producer Paul Epworth, it was released in February 2005 on Wichita Recordings. The record peaked at number three on the United Kingdom Albums Chart. In the United States, it entered the Billboard 200 at number 114 and the Billboard Top Independent Albums at number seven. The double A-side "So Here We Are/Positive Tension", "Banquet", and "Pioneers" were released as singles. Silent Alarm went on to achieve worldwide sales of over one million copies.

Los Campesinos! British indie pop band

Los Campesinos! are a seven-piece indie pop band from Cardiff, Wales, formed in early 2006 at Cardiff University. Though the band formed in Wales, none of the members are Welsh. The band has gone through several lineup changes during their career, with their current lineup consisting of Gareth Campesinos!, Neil Campesinos! (guitar), Tom Campesinos! (guitar), Rob Campesinos!, Kim Campesinos!, Matt Campesinos! (bass) and Jason Campesinos! (drums). Gareth, Neil and Tom are the only remaining original members still in the band.

Dev Hynes British musician

Devonté Hynes, better known as Blood Orange and formerly Lightspeed Champion, is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer. From 2004 to 2006, Hynes was a member of the band Test Icicles, playing guitar, synth, and occasionally performing vocals. They released one full-length album in 2005. Hynes went on to release two solo studio albums as Lightspeed Champion and subsequently four more as Blood Orange, between 2008 and 2018.

Stuck in the Sound French rock band

Stuck in the Sound is a French indie rock band formed in Paris in 2002. The current band line up consists of José Reis Fontão, Emmanuel Barichasse, Arno Bordas and François Ernie. The group are presently signed to Discograph Records and have to date released six studio albums; their first commercially released album Stuck In The Sound was released in 2004 and their most recent album, Billy Believe, was released in 2019.
