West brewery is an alcoholic beverage restaurant located in the Templeton Building in Glasgow Green, Scotland. West produces German Style lagers and wheat beers, both in kegs and bottles, which are sold primarily to the UK market. All West lagers and wheat beers are brewed in accordance with the 1516 Reinheitsgebot , the German Purity Law.
West Brewery opened in March 2006, serving beer made in its Glasgow Green microbrewery to customers in the adjoining beer hall, West on the Green. The company West Brewing Company went into administration, but was bought back by Wetzel in 2008. [1]
In 2016, following a decade in business, West opened a new £5 million brewery, housed in the same premises within the Templeton Building on Glasgow Green. The new brewery brought with it a ten-fold increase in capacity to 2,500,000 litres (550,000 imp gal; 660,000 US gal) per year. [2]
In the same year, West on the Green also expanded with the opening of an adjacent 250-capacity Wedding and Events space.
All West beers are brewed in accordance with the 1516 Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law which allows only malted barley, hops, yeast and water to be used in the brewing process.
West has won many awards for its lagers and wheat beer, as well as for the restaurant on Glasgow Green. Awards include:

The Reinheitsgebot is a series of regulations limiting the ingredients in beer in Germany and the states of the former Holy Roman Empire. The best known version of the law was adopted in Bavaria in 1516, but similar regulations predate the Bavarian order, and modern regulations also significantly differ from the 1516 Bavarian version. Although today the Reinheitsgebot is mentioned in various texts about the history of beer, historically it was only applied in the duchy, electorate, then Kingdom of Bavaria and from 1906 in Germany as a whole, and it had little or no effect in other countries or regions.

In informal terms, such as when ordering at a bar, "dunkel" is likely to mean whatever dark beer the bar has on tap, or sells most of; in much of north and western Germany, especially near Düsseldorf, this may be Altbier.
