The foundation for the school was laid by Rt. Rev. F. Hall, D.D., the Bishop of Kisumu, on 18 September 1955 and was opened by Dr. A. Ressano Garcia (the Consul General for Portugal) on 22 July 1956.
The school attracts students from all social classes in Kisumu and has a reputation for academic excellence. The school's early head teachers and administrators, including Mr. V. Z. Patel, Mrs. Caroline Tado, and Mr. Donald Meda, improved the school's academic performance and attracted talented teachers. The school has three streams, named in Kiswahili after Africa's big cats: "Simba" (a lion) "Chui" (a leopard) and "Duma" (a cheetah). The school's academic success led to the establishment of Xavierian Secondary School to accommodate the graduates of the primary school.
Kisumu is the third-largest city in Kenya after the capital, Nairobi, and Mombasa. It is the second-largest city after Kampala in the Lake Victoria Basin. The city has a population of slightly over 600,000. Kisii is a municipality and urban centre in south-western Kenya and the capital of Kisii County. Siaya County is one of the counties in the former Nyanza Province in western Kenya. It is bordered by Busia County to the north, Kakamega County, and Vihiga County to the northeast and Kisumu County to the southeast. It shares a water border with Homa Bay County which is located south of Siaya County. The total area of the county is approximately 2,496.1 km2. The county lies between latitude 0° 26' to 0° 18' north and longitude 33° 58' east and 34° 33' west. Siaya has been split up into six new districts. Under the 2010 Constitution, the role of the districts is still unclear as much of the administrative authority was transferred to the county. Kisii University is a public university located in Kisii. It was founded in 1965 as a primary teachers’ training college on a 61-acre land that was donated by the County Council of Gusii. The college continued up to 1983 when it was upgraded to a secondary teachers’ college to offer Diploma programmes.
Dago Thim Secondary School is a Kenyan school located in the Nyahera village in the Ksumu North ward of the Kisumu Town West Constituency of Kisumu County, Nyanza Province.
Festo Habakkuk Olang’,was born in Ebusakami Esabalu village about 1914 In 1925 he began attending Kisumu Primary School, then called Komulo School. In 1927, he sat for the Common Entrance Examination at Maseno School and was admitted in 1928. He studied there for three years but found it quite a traumatic experience to be away from home, having to conform to the school regulations and dress code. However, he was greatly helped and influenced by the headmaster of Maseno School and famous mathematician, Mr. Edward Carey Francis. Olang’s faith in Jesus Christ grew and was strengthened under his guidance and, like many of the 300 boys at the school, Olang’ taught at Sunday schools in the area each Sunday, after learning how to give the lesson under Mr. Francis’s tutelage each week. Olang’ taught Luhya speaking groups and was also encouraged to plant trees around the village churches.
The Western International School of Kenya (WISK) is an international school from year 1 to 12 located on the outskirts of Kisumu, Kenya.
Grace Monica Akech Onyango, popularly known as Nya'Bungu, was a Kenyan politician. She achieved several firsts in post-independence Kenyan politics, as the first female to climb up the ranks of the political system, defying cultural barriers. She was the first Kenyan female mayor, after she replaced Mathias Ondiek as the Mayor of Kisumu in 1965. She was also the first female Member of Parliament in post-independence Kenya after she was elected to represent Kisumu Town Constituency in 1969. In Parliament, Onyango was the first woman to sit in the speaker's chair as temporary deputy speaker, and served as Deputy Speaker from 1979 to 1984. Her political career ended after she lost her parliamentary seat in 1984. Onyango also served as the first female secretary-general of the Luo Union.
Kondele is a district of the city of Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya, and the second largest city, after Kampala, in the Lake Victoria Basin. Kondele is the most densely populated of the three satellite towns of Kisumu metropolitan region, the others being Maseno and Ahero. It is Kisumu City's most notable region and cultural identifier and one of the most densely populated regions in Kisumu County, Kenya. It lies on the A1 road that connects Kisumu and Vihiga. The town is administered by the Kondele County Assembly ward, an administrative ward which is part of the wards that represent Kisumu Central constituency in Kisumu county assembly. The ward is represented by the Kondele Member of County Assembly.
